My local shop asked me if I wanted one since he had two left.  I said "Not for $400"  8)

Well with a metascore of 98 it might.

That score alone will really help with the Switch's image. Highest rated game in a decade, exclusive* to the Switch.

It should easily carry the system into the holidays.

Doubt it. The critical reception of a game only goes so far. Barbie's Horse Adventure could be the first game to ever have a perfect 10 across the board. No one is going to buy it.

You don't pull in the mainstream crowd with a Zelda title. Which is what Nintendo needs to do to start selling competitively again. That's much easier to achieve than crossing your fingers and hoping for another perfect storm miracle like the Wii was.

Nintendo games sell Nintendo fans. They really don't sell everyone else. Smash Bros and Mario Kart didn't rescue the Wii U. Both franchises far more popular with non-Nintendo fans than Zelda and both scored high.

I fully expect Zelda to be a reason for Nintendo fans to early adopt Switch faster than they did Wii U. I also expect it to grind to a halt early Summer and struggle until the holidays. It'll get a boost then but without the big third party games, it'll still just be the Nintendo faithful snagging it.

The huge question mark is Pokemon. That will be the factor. The big one. Depending on when it releases and how willing people are to spend nearly $400 to buy it and a Switch.

That is low for one store, no?

Makes me think it won't break 500k in March NPD.

Depends on how big the store is.
Bigger stores will get more, smaller stores will get less obviously.
My Walmart has its preorders sold out.

My walmart is the business reincarnation of Gilbert's grapes brother asking for his base ball. I would not be surpised to setp over a mountain of xboxes to find an empty switch case.

I only mean on the software side of things. Switch will probably never get "no games" memes like PS4 and XBO did. Its library will be considered great just because of Zelda for months.

Hardware, marketing, price, etc. will still really hold back the system. I'm in the "doom" camp for the device as a whole.
