Been seeing mixed reviews. Wired gave the Switch a 5/10 while Engadget gave it a 8.4/10.

IGN review in progress gave it a temporary 6.7.

Seems like a jack of all trades, master of none situation.

From what I've read so far, it seems there are a lot of concerns and Zelda might be the only thing that saves it from an early death. Practically all of them seem to recommend waiting to see if things get better.

A game on another system, that probably could have been ready a year ago if they didn't need to port it over... and Nintendo is going to get praised for this...

No one is buying a Wii U anymore and not many did in the first place. Zelda will be looked at as a Switch title even if it's on Wii U as well. People like me who don't own a Wii U aren't likely to go backwards in hardware if we want Zelda. Especially considering how much it costs for a Wii U. The prices are getting ridiculous now that it's no longer in production. Like it or not, Nintendo perfectly positioned Zelda. It's really the only chance this thing has at not being dead before next holiday season.

It's bringing about 4 to 500 on ebay.  Usually when a console is going to be hot it will be double retail. This thing is so hard to judge how it's going to do out of the gate.

Problem is that very rarely does a single game carry a platform for an extended period of time.

I'm just salty since I should have had it last year :P

No doubt. Typically, a console has plenty of third party support to hold it initially and is released at a time when its competition is new as well. However, we already know that Switch isn't getting that support. Last I checked, the closest thing it has to a major third party release any time soon is a port of Skyrim, a game that will be 6 years old by the time it arrives and, from what I understand, is not even the remastered version that recently dropped. That is a rough deal for a console releasing at a time when PlayStation 4 is at its peak and Xbox One is still holding strong in North America.

I think that the only reason why Switch would ultimately end up not selling as poorly as the Wii U will be thanks to its portability. Let's not underestimate the power of a Pokemon game on this thing. Though I will say that this doesn't seem to be anywhere near as desirable to carry around with you as dedicated handhelds have been in the past. Its design doesn't seem to be nearly as sturdy for children to be running around with it as the DS and 3DS were and adults like to be a tad bit more inconspicuous about it than this thing will allow.
