NeoGAF

QuoteIntel officially abandoned its previous "Tick-Tock" strategy—with each "tick" representing a die shrink and each "tock" representing a new microarchitecture—in early 2016, and instead promised a three-phase model of Process, Architecture, Optimization. But now, with Coffee Lake, it seems Intel might have abandoned that new model, too. Technically, Kaby Lake is the "Optimization" to the "Architecture" of Skylake and the "Process" of Broadwell, which makes the early launch of Coffee Lake on 14nm something of an anomaly

And other fabs are advertising getting to 10nm first, but in reality the densities are closer to Intels 14nm fab then 10nm, Intels 10nm will be the actual full process node jump. They've always advertised their fabs as equal when they're more like n-1 to intels.

I wonder if this gives AMD the chance to catch up.

Indeed.

Let's hope a good alternative to silicon is made viable soon

If leaks are true, they all ready did.

Well just to be clear here :D

Actual 10nm from Samsumg and TSMC are on par with Intel 14nm nodes... so it is pretty good for them.

Said that I don't expect any more to 10nm or 7nm before 2019.

Like I said actual Intel 14nm compares with 10nm from AMD... that said AMD is spiking 10nm for CPUs and they will wait 7nm (2019???).

It doesn't have to be was! Come on scientists and engineers!

If Moore's law does end it could be pretty disastrous for first world economies.

Don't worry. Elon Musk will save us.

;D ;D  it seems to have worked so far

Well if people know how to break physics...

We're going to eventually be reaching a limit with transistor to transistor technology regardless of material.  I just wish light processors took off.

Its not breaking physics, it is possible.

Quantum computing looks to be the most likely candidate.
