The Switch presentation was bad, but what are our thoughts on the Switch itself?

The big question is how long will the casual appeal last. If the Switch's appeal lasts as long as the Wii's (0% chance happening), then Nintendo has something. However, I feel that it's going to fizzle out quickly.

LOL,  let's wait to see if the casuals even want this. I don't see them loving the idea of paying for online or paying more than the cheaper offers.

They will initially. I mean, they bought the Kinect in droves even though its functionality was bad. I think the appeal will last significantly shorter than the Wii or the Kinect because there isn't as much novelty to the Switch.

Those weren't casuals. They were Xbox fans who lap up everything ms says. Remember, Xbox 1 sold a few million before it was 180ed to death

But you can't say that only Xbox fans bough the Kinect with full confidence. The 360 sold so much in 2011 that it actually managed to outsell the PS3 worldwide that year. The 360's library wasn't that good for the core Xbox fans, so where else would those sales come from? The casuals who impulse bought the Kinect bundle.

The Kinect for the XB1 didn't do well because by that time, the novelty factor wore out. Same thing happened with the Wii U. The casuals already moved on from the motion control hardware.

Yeah that's one thing that worries me with the switch and casuals. It's a gimmicky console without a gimmick. Wii was something you had to try, Kinect was something you had to try, but Switch is just a whole bunch of little things that can be experienced in 5 minutes.

I think it ultimately depends what happens when they walk into the store. "$300 dollars AND I have to spend 60 dollars on a game?" *Walks away playing Candy Crush on phone* or "$300 dollars AND I have to spend 60 dollars on a game?  Well I guess I can put it with my Wii in my closet"

it looks like sleek. the design of the console is definitely a looker. the placement of the analog sticks seems a but uncomfortable. the specs are waaaaaaaay to low for me, specially for the price they are asking.

the idea of a home console that you can take on the go is interesting and a nice one in an ideal world, but in reality there will always be compromises. as a home console its really weak and incapable, as a result it wont get third party support and a lot of games will suffer due to it. as a handheld its way to expensive and battery life is weak.

IMO this switch idea would be a lot more ideal if it was released for an established home console mid way through the gen.  for example if Sony released a hybrid PS4 instead of the pro, with the same specs of a PS4, i think that would have been a lot better. sure, it would have been expensive. and it would have a higher price tag than a regular PS4. but it would be an option and compromises on hardware and features wouldnt have been made, it would just have came later, and more pricey.

agreed on that last paragraph.

don't why everyone says it looks sleek.  it looks like a cheap tablet (amazon fire) in a cheap plastic charging station.

Agreed. It looks sleek for Nintendo but not sleek for a modern smart device.

Plus the charging station thing won't work if the switch is in a case. That feels like an oversight.

I would have liked it to be smaller.  It's proportions are weird with the joycons.

Quote from: Legend on Jan 15, 2017, 02:04 AMIt's Nintendo. Were you expecting R rated games?
No I wasn't tbh but whether I expected it or not won't change my opinion. Their line up is for kids.  Any adult obsessing over this hasn't matured in their gaming tastes.

Which is perfectly normal and fine.  I would still love a new crash bandicoot or spyro on ps4 but they're exceptions rather than rules.  the vast majority of my games are mature experiences with a sprinkling of kids nostalgia titles from back in the day.

Great video  :D

The switch might be a lot stronger than the popular leaks.

Foxcon rumor turn out to be true for actual Switch Hardware! : NintendoSwitch

Still way below XBO of course, but it's an actual improvement over Wii U.
