Like I said, an intense pro-Protestant push. It came from all corners of American society. Sure, members of the government spearheaded it, but it was practically government wide. It was part of the Red Scare.

It was everything. It was a huge wave. TV. Word of mouth. Newspapers. Church sermons. It was such a big push and all the ingredients were there for it to be successful. It's easy to convince people to do things in the name of Protestantism when over 80% of Americans were Protestant already.
