QuoteFoundation Update Incoming
Hello Games | November 25, 2016
Hello,
This week Hello Games will be releasing an update to No Man's Sky. We're calling it The Foundation Update, because we have added the foundations of base building, and also because this is putting in place a foundation for things to come.

Detailed patch notes will follow, and release will be soon.

Coming from five years of intense development, immediately after No Man's Sky released the team spent six weeks updating the game with 7 patches across both platforms (the last of these was 1.09 on Sept 24th which you can read about here http://www.no-mans-sky.com/log/). These fixed many of the most common or critical bugs and issues post-release.

In the nine weeks since then our small team has been hard at work on development, testing and certification for the Foundation Update. It won't be our biggest update, but it is the start of something.

The discussion around No Man's Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.

Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.
This update will be the first small step in a longer journey. We hope you can join us.
Thank you,
Hello Games

I sincerely hope they try and undo the bad will they have received.  It's still a great game but is a far cry from what they promised.  If they can continually update and actually make it close to the promises they made then I will be happy.

lol it's a "foundation" update ie it isn't actually the new content, just prepares things for new content.

Still better than nothing at least.

I doubt that'll happen. Otherwise at release they would have put more emphasise on missing content coming down the line.

It sounds like we will get a little bit of base building though.  Nothing huge, but if we can actually start to build bases in the new update that will get me playing more.

It's not like what the promises they made were absolutely huge though.  It is stuff that likely can be implemented but if they do that remains to be seen.  I just like to be more optimistic than most especially those on gaf.  The amount of pessimism on there is unbearable.  It's a game, just wait and see what happens. If it turns out to still be nothing then go back to ranting.  They make it seem like it's life and death.

There will likely be gaming loops attached to base building because base building by itself won't be of much use. I'm thinking they'll probably make it more difficult to survive on planets and create more situations in which the creatures become aggressive. Perhaps you'll have to forage for materials you'll need to build that base or even have to kill creatures for their pelts. A level system linked to parts of the base would also create a decent gaming loop.

I don't understand why they're doing this. With the amount of bad rep the game has, new patches aren't going to convince many people to buy the game. Plus its not like they care about people who've bought the game

Eh the pessimism towards Hello Games is fully deserved. It's the weirdest game release I've ever witnessed and they're either incompetent or scammers. It's not life or death but imo it's the biggest gaming controversy since XBO online DRM. People should be angry about false advertising and marketing manipulation until they know otherwise.

Most of their promises weren't too grand but adding them fixes the lies, not the game. Most of the missing features only increased immersion. Base building doesn't really fit with the game imo, but adding it will help a lot more than adding planet rotation even though the later is cooler.

Could have sentinels dislike base building too. The bigger and stronger your base, the harder they attack it.

I'm all in if the base building is dynamic enough to warrant my time. Hopefully digging and landscaping will become a thing.

You know what? Hello Games truly deserve kudos for their marketing.

They are announcing this update to coincide with all the black friday sales happening. It's giving them a lot of exposure and should help push a lot more sales than just the BF discount on its own. "Foundation" name and everything else posted help sell the idea that people should buy NMS even if the current game isn't there yet.

This is all without actually having any new content ready.

So what you are saying is....

Some believe he is keeping quiet so that NMS can get a big surprise content patch. Others believe the game ended up a scam and he'll stay silent as long as he can. What are your thoughts?
The game might be a scam?  :o
