What would make you buy a Nintendo System?

The issue with Nintendo is that their games lack any sort of depth. Lore, story telling, character development, and creating a believable and interesting universe for their games is something they simply don't know how to do.

They seem to focus only on gameplay. And by that it means throwing in some gameplay gimmicks in pretty much every game they do.

There is always a sense of uncertainty while playing the last of us, what's going to happen? You are always on edge, you never feel safe.

there was this sense of adventure in farcry 3, anything could happen at any time, and you always felt like shame could go down at any minute

There was a sense of majestic wonder in assassin's creed 2, it really did make you feel like you were exploring a a different era in history.

The list can go on, games like the witcher, god of war, red dead, they all made you feel engrossed and emersed in their worlds.

And Nintendo doesn't seem to give a shame about any of that. the devs of those games build their gameplay around those ideas, those senses and emotions the devs want you to feel. Nintendo on the other hand throws in as much gimmicks as they can, and tell everyone they focus in gameplay

How many times was ganon the villain in Zelda? I never played a Zelda game. But if they keep rehashing the same story and use the same villain again and again,  well then that seems boring as fudge. and honestly everytime I hear about a Zelda game I hesr the same thing. Zelda is kidnapped, defeat ganon, save the world.

How many of their games use the Mario universe? A universe that I might add is uninteresting, boring, and lacks any sort of depth of logic what so ever. And when literally half their games are based on this universe, it's not hard to understand why I stopped giving a fudge about Nintendo

I don't want to say never, but if things keep going the way they are, it's pretty much a certainty that I'll never bother with a Nintendo console ever again. They simply don't know how to make interesting and engrossing games, in my opinion.

I'd argue that they don't want to do it.
Miyamoto practically looks down on games that have story.
Miyamoto is "Gameplay, Gameplay, Gameplay".

Their games are pretty fun in my opinion, but they do suffer from story-phobia.

I mean, it isn't just lack of story. Personality. Who is link besides a sword and shield weilding hero? Who is Mario besides a stereotyped Italian plumber?

I think the bigger problem is that they're "Gameplay gameplay gameplay" hasn't evolved.  I can't even remotely finish Mario Galaxy because of how repetitive it gets.  The first actual level after the tutorial is just the tutorial re-skinned.  Link Between Worlds got boring.  New Super Mario Bros. 2 is just Mario Bros. 3 skinned as New Super Mario Bros.  Breath of the Wild is the only interesting thing they've shown in 5+ years and that's only because you can cut down trees.  Mind you those are the only recent games I've played, but it's mostly Nintendo's hypest.

id argue that they dont know how. because they never showed that they could.

maybe monolith soft is the exception, never played their games. but its an JRPG, and JRPG's dont interest me one bit.
