I'm not sure Sony would want to let MS know whether a mid gen console is a good move. I think they'll keep the numbers close to their chest.

Ok so CoD did relatively poor for the series so that's why Pro was able to push to 5th. Not sure if Pro will get higher than this. This is amazing though.

Not exactly sure why they'd want to do that.
Firstly, I'm pretty sure MS buys access to these sales numbers from NPD, and the like. So they are going to get numbers at some point anyway. We are also going to get numbers at some point anyway.

Secondly, MS already has a midgen console coming. So, MS thinking it's a good idea would pretty much mean they keep doing what they were doing. Nothing changes either way....

MS has already committed to releasing a mid-gen console, or rather an iteration.

On Sony's side, they should make sure the Pro sells well. A year head start is a big advantage and has benefited multiple platforms in the past.

Yeah, they'll get numbers but only of the PS4. They won't be able to decide (after the pre-orders and Christmas rush) whether the PS4 got a boost from the lower price, Slim, PSVR or the fact Q1 2017 is stuffed with exclusives.
