Uh, why?
Nintendo is fudgy stupid, thats why

Guess that's where the its primarily a home console bit comes in...
Battery life is really bad.

But still really weird to have a home console with a screen and a battery.

I'm expecting 299$ for price.  That'll be awful frankly.

I just don't understand this device.

It has a lot of interesting elements but they all take away from other parts.

It's a weird mix of some great and some bad.
Portability takes away from how powerful the system could have been.
Larger size takes away from how realistic it is to be portable...

I like it overall, but it seems like a weird mix of bad and good.

I'm honestly starting to think a down clocked PS4 handheld running on a 540p (Or whatever the Vita's resolution is) screen would be a better device at this point...

Nintendo drop the ball big time.  The more I think about it the worst this thing is.

But from their point of view they should have given more details in the reveal. That will likely be the most viewed video the console ever gets and all its led to are bad rumours that will last for months.

The battery life is rumoured to be shame.  It's not getting a new splatoon or Mario Kart.  Third party titles are going to mainly consist of downgraded ports.

And just thinking about the portable gimmick.  In Japan this could be huge.  I can see that. But in the west,  nobody gives a fudge.  It's not going to replace the ipad or surface.  It's not going to take your phone.  The thing isn't that small.

So if you're buying this as a home console which most in the west will be,  you are getting a gimped console because of that gimmick.  You're going to get a ton of ports.  WOW!

you might aswell wait 3 years for a library of good and new Nintendo titles to build up before buying.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Smartphones are proof enough that jacks of all trades can be successful.

Nintendo Switch is even worse imo. It's not just that it has limitations, but that it has competing philosophies. They want it to function as a home console, a portable, and a portable home console (2 player with the sticks). Portability forces it to be underpowered for home and forces the sticks to be too small when sideways.

That would get no dev support. With modern wifi getting better and better, remote play type streaming will be the primary way to play graphics intensive games on the go.

It'd be getting tons of support because every ps4 game would would work without devs having to touch their code.  It'd play every ps4 game released and going to be released.

If you want it to just be standard PS4 hardware, why the 520p screen?

The reveal vid isn't exactly how the Switch will be used. If they showed us how it would be used and who the real target audience is it would be laughed at. Everything from the tablet sized portable to the name points at Nintendo trying to get the Wii crowd back on board (mums, dads and kids).

The tablet will never be used outside of the house but more for your children to use around the house. The furthest it might go is to your child's friends house where they can hook up their tablets for multiplayer up in their bedroom. This console is as casual it can get and an attempt from Nintendo to catch the mobile crowd.

I do like the concept but not executed in a way that would appeal to me, well not until my boy gets older anyway. If he was 5 years older I would consider getting him one.

With all that said this could be very successful if they capture the crowd they are after. I know for a fact that when they do release the console the adverts with not be of trendy people on rooftops, it will be an advert of Ant & Dec (or American equivalent) having so much 'fun' playing Mario Kart Switch with their gran or something.

They'd have to downclock the gpu for thermals and battery.  To make sure every game runs to spec without changing it, they'd have to lower the resolution.

That would suck.
Battery life would be awful.

The NS is probably closest one could realistically get to it.
