After the furore of late over mods, this is extremely ironic:

We're excited to announce that mod support is coming to PlayStation 4 for both Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4. Additionally, we'll also be supporting the new PlayStation 4 Pro with both titles.

Skyrim will have these features when it launches on October 28. The new power of the PlayStation 4 Pro has allowed us to make Skyrim render in native 4k, and it looks better than ever. Here are some screens to show you just how great it looks.

Mod support will come to Skyrim first. We and Sony have worked hard to make this possible. Mods on PlayStation 4 will allow you to modify and create your own content by using our Creation Kit available here. You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do. By creating a Bethesda.net account, you'll be able to browse and try mods right from within the game. We are excited finally to get modding to our PlayStation fans who have supported us for so long. Modding has been an important part of our games for over 10 years, and we hope to do even more in the coming year for all our players, regardless of platform.

After the work is complete on Skyrim, we'll be updating Fallout 4 for both mods and PS4 Pro. We expect Fallout 4 to take advantage of the PS4 Pro in 4k along with enhanced lighting and graphics features.

Thanks again for all your support. We can't wait to hear about your new adventures.

Is this where I talk favorably about myself?

Yeah, it says nothing about that. I have no idea how this tech works but perhaps it's a compromise to get it to run in native 4K? Or perhaps it's there and they haven't mentioned it.

Weird move after all talk Sony is not allowing Mods.

Either sony and bethesda were always trying to figure out the best way to get them on ps4 and as usual parts of the gaming community showed it's true colors on being entitled little brats.

Or Sony caved after backlash. And the community was right to give backlash.  8)

My take: Bethesda wanted the mods to be made available openly but Sony wanted them Quality Controlled for fear of someone finding a backdoor into their system and offering hackers a way in. Sony held out for a compromise and this is it. Bethesda will probably add the mods via official patches which are properly QCed, so instead of getting them all out of the gate at once, PS4 owners will get them piecemeal. Bethesda are happy because they can add the mods and Sony are happy because they get QCed.

Makes sense.

Ludicrous Speed

What is ironic about it?

And the "compromise" is you can't use any assets outside what is already in Fallout 4. There's no need for Bethesda to do any testing. Developers don't QC mods, lol. We do.

I think once a GOTY version comes with all the DLC I'll switch to PC or Xbox One for the game, probably PC. This is allowing mods kind of. A big part of the allure of mods is new, custom content. This is going to create some nice mods, but it won't be the same.

Absolutely delighted to hear they are giving it ps4 pro support.  It's one of the titles I was hoping for.

As for mods.  I couldn't give a rats.  Just glad there will be some level of quality control at least.
