Yeah we have to continue working on making things noob friendly. Clicking "preview" is one way to get the full reply before posting, but it's not obvious.

It keeps the formatting if you use the 'more' option. GOOD. just a 'noob' tip!

Well this is weird. I just got it to retain the formatting by using 'modify' in the original post but it won't do it here. But it retains the formatting if I cut and paste it from another site ... mmmm. There must be a way around this. Any idea what that could be?
