Layoffs at Sony San Diego (maybe shut down?) - NeoGAF

QuoteJust saw it was mentioned on Twitter. There is some speculation that Sony San Diego has been shut down but no confirmation of that.
Quote@notaxation: Wishing my absolute best to those at Sony San Diego who were let go today. Super talented bunch! Be well, and keep creating! <3

Quote@RyanPalser: @RiotWhist Buddy from there telling me they shut down the studio or at least a large part of it.  Doesn't seem to be public details yet.

Not good. I thought MLB was selling ok. Did they hire for Kill Strain? Maybe that flopped and they are going back to a crew to just do MLB.

Edit - I just see the OP edit. Kill Strain was their chance and they messed it up by the sounds.

Someone is saying everyone but the Baseball team was let go, which is still unfortunate for those affected but overall less surprising, the studios F2P experiments didn't seem to catch on whatsoever.

Well it still sucks but it sucks less  :P

Wonder what caused San Diego to try out making all these smaller titles anyway?

I don't know but I feel Sony should keep the "2nd" team to keep on making FTP games so they have a foot in that market.

Sony opened a smartphone studio for that.

To stretch their legs creatively maybe? I would have prefered if they just worked on an extra game to actually sell for money upfront, but I guess they wanted to try something different and I doubt Sony would have given them the funds for another retail game anyways. But F2P is a difficult market and Sony, imo, should consider that experiment done for now, at least on console.

They made that kill strain game?  I downloaded it but only because I happened to notice it. Had no idea it had released. I didn't play much because I was playing mostly paragon when it came to f2p.
I didn't really understand why they made it.
Is this where I talk favorably about myself?

I think that's the underlying problem of Sony trying to get a piece of that F2P pie. No one really gives a shame about Killstrain and other F2P projects like Guns Up. It also doesn't help when they get bad reception...

Yeah, I actually thought when I clicked download "I wonder why they released this and never bother to really let people know?" That's not a good thought.
I don't remember seeing anything about it releasing.

Ha, I had same thought. No wonder they got closed. Obviously some of us never knew they made things besides baseball.
That can't be a good thing.
