Makes sense do one one eventually right?

What do you think would be different?

Would it gasp add a 4K blu ray player?

Yeah, Right befor ps5.   They have to always offer a budget console.

But wouldn't standard PS4 be the budget system?

in three years they will launch the ps4 pro slim along side the ps5. ps4 pro will be the base console. i don't care what they say now,.. this is the start of iterative consoles.

in three years UHD will be dead.

I don't know if that's sustainable though.  It's getting harder and harder to get gains in the processor space.  Sony  and Microsoft just happened to walk into AMD going into a node shrink.  It's going to be a while until AMD gets to 10nm.

Sony can just release a new Pro every year with minor improvements, replacing the previous one. Pro, Pro 2, Pro 3, Pro 4, etc. May very well be their plan

i think every 3 years is better.

there needs to be a balance with customers willingness to upgrade, the benefits of upgrading, and how many versions back they officially support.

too often and the benefits won't be noticable to consumers and developers will be burdened.

i personally think every 3 years is the best balance for now.  we are used to gens lasting 6ish years and seeing huge improvements.  new hardware evey three years with official support for two verision seems like a good model.  those that pine for the good old days of generations don't have to change. those that pine for better graphics can see the improvements between versions.
