Hey guys,

Making a new topic to continually show progress of my jungle in Unreal.  It's probably 3/4 finished, but would like everyone to be able to see the last couple weeks or so of work that I'm gonna do.

Couple shots of some plants I've just create over the past few days.

Big dog tree is to be finished over the weekend, hopefully.  Plus some other large and smaller trees.

Wow that's looking really good. Are you doing any realtime lighting?

Yeah currently it's all dynamic lighting.  I'd like to have a video at some point when its finished going from day to night and back to day.  And maybe speed the video up and then start flythroughs of the level.  if i decide to not do that I'm gonna try and do light maps for all stationary objects(mainly rocks) and keep only the plants casting dynamic shadows.

I'm still struggling to get the dead parts of some of the plants to look correct in coloring.  The only way I can think of turning them brown is to to hue shifts in photoshop and overlay and just tweaking till I get it.  But I sometimes get too much red showing through.

Finally getting working on the tree.  Built it in a way that I can duplicate the pieces and build new trees around the area without having to do much more modeling sculpting.

Trying to complete this piece in a week to 2 weeks.

Couple more shots.  Getting closer to finished.  Added in a new bush and tweaking more colors.  Added in some vies between the big arch tree root and the cliffs.  still need to get some leaves spawned over it and some other foliage hanging down.

Gonna make one other variation of ivy, 1 more bush, finish the tree and create another smaller tree version to help fill in some places at eye level.  oh and add some dead to the palms.

GETTING SOMEWHERE!!  Another 2-3 days and I'm gonna call this done.

This is very nice. Is there any background to this project?

Not too much,  I had another version of a jungle on my portfolio website and I just couldn't shake the feeling it just wasn't up to standards for the industry. So, I basically just told my self I wanted to create a piece that is inspired by Uncharted 4 and was up too par with many of the current gen games, or at least as close as I at this time and experience can get.  There is a lot more to the level, but I just wanted to focus on making this section look the best I could.  And also have that linear feeling like Uncharted and having the bridge in the background to have something that would lead the player through the level. Not that anybody is ever gonna play the level of course.  ;D

Alright think I'm going to be calling this done tonight.  Just need to add in the my roughness maps for the plants and the tree bark and I'm calling it.  Going to put on website as is and apply to some jobs and get some feedback from forums like polycount and send to some people I've met from GDC and some others. Then tweak it if need be.  Then moving onto something totally new and moving away from foliage for a bit.

The only thing I might critic is the colors/lighting. It's giving me Uncharted 1 forest vibes with everything leaning towards yellow.

Thanks, yeah my lights have a slight yellow saturation and a bit of over saturation in the post processing.  Last bit of tweaking is gonna be with the lights and post processing. I'm not sure if I should make my lights just have straight white color. But it's seems like even the slightest amount of color I add to the lights just makes everything look that color too much.

You'll see my previous jungle I did during my last semester of Uni on there right now, but felt it was a little low on quality so I wanted to redo it.  I would like to finish off/polish the fantasy city, but right now i'm burned out of that and this jungle as they have been on my mind for the past like 6 months or more.  I think it's time to move on from them and make something new and even better with what I've learned the past few months.

Gonna be paying for an upgrade so I can get a domain name and get rid of the wix advertising.

Think i figured out a little bit of the yellowness.  In my post processing I was upping the gain and gamma a bit.  Lowered the gamma a touch and turned off gain and I could see a bit of yellow come out of the image.  We'll see what else I can do with post processing.  I need to make an LUT too which should help if done right.
