looks like a ps eye update. they didn't say shame about it. I just happened to catch it in the after show.

I wonder if this thing will sell out and be hard to find at christmas? I'm thinking it won't be hard to find, but it might sell out for a week or two.

Yeah it's definitely Eye.

But why?

Dumb

Like really dumb.

Obviously they make more profit on bluray players so they don't want people buying Neo instead, but this is stupid.

So, time to get off the internet for now. People's rage about Sony's decision not to include a 4K Blu-Ray player is just going to grow for tonight, while people keep pretending that they were planning to buy so many 4K movies that they seriously, in freaking 2016 with streaming services basically getting better by the week, are basing their purchasing decision of a console on if it has a 4K Blu-Ray player or not.

The amount of comments saying something along the line of "What's even the point if this has no 4K Blu-Ray player?" is mind boggling to me, as if something like that just negates the whole power difference.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, if they have data showing that the amount of blu-rays being watched on PS4 is just very low.

it's not dumb to me.  4k blu rays don't even exist as far as i'm concerned.  no 4k tv.  library doesn't carry 4k blurays.  i'm not paying $40 for a disc.

just give me 4k streaming.

i get blurays from the library when they carry it but still,.. i watch 1 blu ray movie for every 200 hours of netflix.  4k blu ray is just obsucure and not going to go mainstream.  sony did the right thing,.. only fanboys making lists will care.

Yep. But this just feels like a MS 2013 type of thing.

If XBO S didn't support UHD discs, then imo it'd be pretty minor.

I agree that it's a weird decision, but I don't think it will matter in the long or even short run. What is MS going to do? Keep reiterating that their S plays 4K blurays? I mean I could do that, but how big of an audience are they going to find with that? Physical movies are a dying medium, not quite like music, but much faster than games so how long will you really effectively be able to play that card until people realize that they mostly aren't watching blurays in the first place. Not long I would imagine. And at that point it's nothing more than fanboy fuel.

Also who knows, maybe they'll be able to add it via a firmware update at some point, I mean they added 3D blu ray support to the PS3 via firmware as well, so maybe this is possible as well.

But I simply don't care, it's a freaking console, I care about how it plays games.

Haha what is sony doing

Lol, ok now this is hilarious to me.

gamrConnect Forums - Buying an XBOX One S Thanks to Sony Event

QuoteSo basically I sold my PS4 a month ago in anticipation of Neo. I'm getting a 4ktv this fall, but now that the Pro doesn't even play 4k Blurays I'm basically screwed by Sony. I'm not paying another extra 200-400 bucks for 4k BR player AND a PS4 Neo.

I might as well get an XBox One S now because it's one of the cheaper 4k BR players and just game on that since I doubt the 4k games on the Pro will run that great. And no Netflix is not good enough, the whole point of getting a 4ktv is for the best image, a stream is not going to match a 4k Blu Ray.

So basically I'm being forced into an Xbox. Now I'm wondering if I should just ditch the PS ecosystem entirely and just wait for Scorpio next year which is going to be more powerful. Sorry Sony but you just lost a customer.

What Sony are doing by not including 4k player which would only be used by very few people is basically allow them to keep their console costs down much lower then MS.

So it makes it impossible for MS to greatly undercut the ps4 price.  Whatever number MS drop it to Sony can follow whenever they want.

If the scorpio was planned to be a beast Sony just iced them up.  Like if the thing costs $500 fudge all people will buy it when the neo is $100 cheaper and possibly $150 cheaper by the time it comes out.

I wonder will MS go with a weaker scorpio now to keep the price down.  Sony playing an absolute blinder this gen.

And yeah 4k blu rays are a no go for me.  Way too expensive when I can just steam or buy regular blu rays which are fine in terms of quality.  if that feature means I have to pay more for the console,  fudge that just cut it out.  Streaming is the future.

Dropping a shame ton of hardware at the same time. and I'm A sucker for new head phones. Dang it Sony.

Ok, now people are getting kinda ridiculous, I'm seeing complaints because there won't be any FPS differences in multiplayer games between standard and pro versions. Why would you be upset at that? It's competitive multiplayer, so of course they are going to keep the framerate level.
