Well most of the year is crowded. There's so many video games coming out most of the time. So it's not as big of a deal to miss a date anymore. Even Though the only people who get pissed about it are the fans. And that can be bad too. You don't want to loose them. Releasing a bad game can be far worse than missing ship date.

I think it's a mixture of devs/publishers underestimating the difficulty and ressource intensity of 8th gen development and marketing departments just rushing out to announce shame to early. Both of these however should've been dealt with by now, since we're three years into the generation god dang nabbit. In regards to PD for instance, how the hell does that studio still only have around 100 employees?

I was a moron and decided to make two games and sell them as a single package.

I was also completely oblivious to how much work went into making a polished high quality game vs a game jam style prototype.

No I dropped out of college when it went from PC to PS4 exclusive. Compared to a couple semesters at University, game dev is cheap.
