QuoteMetro: Review in progress
QuoteIn terms of scale No Man's Sky is exactly what we hoped for, and in terms of its action it's actually better than we expected. How well the structure and longevity of the game holds together will take us several days to find out, but we honestly can't wait to get back to it and discover even more.

jasonschreier: I'm really enjoying No Man's Sky. Ignore the hype, though. It's not the space sim to end all space sims - it's a serene exploration game.

Definitely getting generally positive review comments. Out of the 4 on open critic, 3 are probably above 7.

I think it's funny that a few publications screwed up and thought the embargo ended an hour early. Lol the gaf countdown thread was off so maybe they just went along  ::)

Just going off user opinions, it is starting to feel like a 7-8 range. The randomness of the game is making some people love their first planet while others hate it and just reset their save.

Plus everyone dislikes the sentinels.

Still no reviews, but drama has been brewing over the game's potentially deceptive marketing.

This is an honest question: should lieing pre-release affect the review score? Personally it kinda feels like it shouldn't. People buying the game a year from now don't care about marketing, they just want to know how good the game is. Will be interesting to see if any reviews talk about it.

Depends on what we're talking about here. If it's the whole meeting other players thing then people are being absurd, it was said time and again that the chance of meeting other people would be extremely small, so if you went into the game expecting to see other players then you either didn't pay attention to what they said before launch anyways or you're just bullshitting.

The multiplayer thing is a flat out lie if it doesn't end up just being server issues, but I was thinking more in general.

Couldn't the game just have several servers per platform, with just the naming shame being shared between them? I find the idea that this game would have this one server that would host these 10s of thousands of players simultaneously, pretty hard to believe, I mean even MMO juggernauts like WoW have different servers. Then again, I have no clue about netcoding and servers so what do I know...
If it's general things then my answer is no too, thos has happened before and it will happen again, marketing is just often done by people without a huge connection to the game itself, unfortunate but that's how it is. Just judge the game for what it is, not for what marketing told you it would be.

Sean in interviews actually talked about how the multiplayer worked.

It's not an MMO where everyone plays in the same world, but instead it works like Watch Dogs, Elite Dangerous, Journey, and Dark Souls. When multiple people are in the same area, it creates a peer to peer instance. If there are too many people in the area, new people entering are put into a new instance. No server is used to control the MP like in MMOs.

About gosh darn time we got a score.

However that's pretty low. Hopefully others had a better experience.

Lol, this game isn't breaking 70. It looked horrid from the start. Indie crud with nothing to do for 60 doll? Yeah, no thanks.

I did not expect just another survival/crafting game that used randomization as a crutch to the point of losing all potential personality

....that's exactly what they showed from the start though...
