In 5th grade I designed a spyro inspired platformer where you played as cool 2D geometric shapes that could reassemble.

I made a calculator game!  ;)

I actually spent a lot of time imagining story lines for 6 or 7 game series.  Including gameplay mechanics.
At least when I was younger I did that.

Haha I made a few of those too, but they weren't full games. Made blender games too.

Technically I made a full game for a game dev class. Might include it in VizionEck as an easter egg.

Programmed or game engine?

Unity. I made it the night before the final project was due. Just a bunch of random stuff to make it feel deep.

Cool!   My college doesn't seem to have anything like that.
A graphics class, an AI class, but nothing specifically for games.

After deciding to do game dev, I dropped out of CU boulder and found a college with a game dev class just to make sure I knew what I was getting into.

That makes sense.
I'll be learning it all the old fashioned way. ;)

Some really exciting classes in the next year for me.

I love learning from schools.  I mean some things I'll have to figure out on my own, but most of it, I'll learn I just might not have like exact knowledge for the field.

Personally
School
+You're more likely to do something.  (you're asked to do something that is within your ability.)
+You're told what you should learn to an extent.
+You have face to face access to really knowledgeable people.
-expensive

Google:
+free
+worldwide knowledge
-You have to learn what you need to learn before you can actually learn those things.
-You have to motivate yourself.

I personally am usually really bad at motivating myself to do/learn things most of the time.  Sometimes I can pull it off, but usually it takes me a lot longer to do it without school.

Xbro

I'm actually not taking any computer classes these next two semesters  :'(. I'll be back at the grindstone next fall though.

And yes, I've designed several games in my mind.
