Gameplay wise U4 was the best in the series, but story wise I consider it the worst. Same with locations and environments. It's beautiful but nothing is as memorable as places in the past games.

For the moment my rating is a 9/10. Gameplay isn't the main reason I play Uncharted so U4's gameplay upgrades aren't enough to make me like it more than the other ones.

U1, U2, U3, and U:GA>U4 imo.

It has the best story for me... more life like.

Drake is human.

I honestly can't comprehend how you think this is the worst story. For me its easily the best.

Locations do let the game down slightly.

Same. Only thing the game needed was a snow level.

It has good moments but it's not a good package.

The game begins like it ends. There's hardly any changes, twists, surprises, etc. It feels more like putting the characters in a situation vs the characters leading the situation. Playing Crash with Elena is great, Elena faking her death is great, Sam chatting with you while fake drinking is great, etc. but it feels more like a character piece than anything else. Sam being kidnapped towards the end is the only thing that even happens in the story but that was such a trivial scene. Sam and Drake's dynamic is unchanged and the story continues with just a different side character. It's nothing compared to Flynn betraying you in U2.

TLOU also has a "minimalist" story but the relationship between Ellie and Joel is what makes it great. The relationship changes with the final ultimate moment in the game being Joel deciding the relationship was more important than everything else. U4 doesn't even attempt something like this so it's left with nothing. The relationship between Rafe and Nadine is the only non static one in the game. Elena gets upset about Drake, but her feelings never change. It's the same relationship already developed in the past game.
I replayed all the previous games in the Uncharted Collection only a few months ago and I firmly believe U4 has the worst story. Maybe I'm off my rocker, but I get the feeling that a few months/years from now in retrospective the majority of people will have similar thoughts.

They made Drake human and believable.

That only puts U4 story way ahead previous games.

The setthing was better too... you don't need a twist to have a great story.

You are only trying to find a down where there aren't one like some reviewers do with some games lol

Best U story.

And you misunderstood TLOU ending... it was great because it was normal, human, predicated... most people (me included) will do the same than Joel without thinking twice... I played it hoping the end was like happened.

It was real.

Said that U4 story is better than TLOU for me due same point... it is the first real feeling Uncharted.

To me Drake has been human and believable since the first game. U3 was very similar to U4 in their approach with this too.

You don't need a twist to have a great story, but you do need change to have one. I'm not complaining that U4 ends where it begins, but that it stays in the same place it begins for the duration of the game. It's not that U4 has a bad story, it's that U4 lacks a story. Outside of the setup, there are only two beats in the entire game.

Spoiler for Hidden:
1. When Sam is kidnapped and Elena shows up.
2. When Sam decides to go after the treasure after meeting up with drake.
Compare that with every other Uncharted or just every other strong story. Only two beats is incredibly low for a 14 hour game.

Haha I'm not trying to find a down. I wanted to love every aspect of U4 (Uncharted is by far my favorite franchise. I bought a Vita at launch just for Golden Abyss. My only platinum trophies are from Uncharted games) yet after completing the game I had nothing but mixed feelings. After additional playthroughs and some time to settle most of my negative feelings have stuck.

Exactly yes that's why TLOU ending was great. The whole game is building this relationship so you start feeling angry/upset that Joel is letting the Drs. take her. When he decided to rescue Ellie I literally cheered. It was such a powerful beat.

Why do you think U4's story is better than TLOU? Just because the characters are more real feeling?

Multiplayer matchmaking is broken or what? How the fudge does my team get 19 kills AND I GET 15 OF THOSE 19 KILLS.

fudgy piece of shame match making. I always get the most idiotic teammates.
Legend made me remove this. Everybody riot.

Its not the best.

When I played plunder I got put against people who were really good and it was a very annoying game.

finally got to finishing Uncharted 4 yesterday. well... there are some bad things about it and certainly some good things.

overall i think id give it a 9/10. maybe a 9.2/10. its a fantastic game, but it has some flaws.

Spoiler for Hidden:
overall, i think the story was great, but the ending was anticlimactic. someone should have died, im not particularly a fan of happy endings, and rafe dying certainly didnt spark any sad emotions. either sam, sully, drake or elena should have been killed, deeply injured and have had something bad happen to them. the ending just felt... bland. the stakes were so high, but everything was just "ok" at the end. i felt that something was supposed to happen that made nate regret going on this treasure hunt, or make same regret he lied to nate. however, the game really did spark a huge sense of nostalgia for any who played the previous 3 games before, its sparked a sadness to say farewell to nathan drake and uncharted as a franchise.

my main grip, and biggest WTF with the game was when they revealed that Nathan Drake isnt even related to Sir Frances Drake... that COMPLETELY undermined the story behind UC1 and UC3, wasnt he SO obsessed in UC3 because he felt the treasure was "rightfully his"?!" they totally iced that up... its infuriating.... plus i got a question, where was Sam in Colombia? why wasnt he a part of UC3's story then? this made a huge plot hole for me... they completely iced over UC3 and iced over UC1 as well.

now back to the story, this is the first Uncharted where the treasure itself has an actual story of its own. how avery recruited pirates, formed libertalia, what happened there, the civil war, avery and tow's alliance, and then there abysmal demise. its was a very interesting story, it helped further the plot and it really made you feel like you are on a treasure hunt. i enjoyed reading every note i found.

i really liked nadin, she is a great character, and probably the second best villian after lazarevic, maybe even better. certainly better than the shaming ones in UC3. actually all the characters where well explained and explored, they all had their reasons to go after the treasure, and every one had a different reason.

Drake went to save his brother, he felt he owned it to him, he felt he owned him a lot, he felt guilty and he wasnt going to abandon him (again, because he felt he abandoned him in the prison).

Sam went because he felt its his destiny too, that he was built for this life, and he felt he owned it to his mother as well as himself.

rafe (i feel had the weakest reason) went for glory, to prove himself worthy, to earn the respect of others.

Nadin went simply for the money, she inherited a mess with shoreline and she needed the money. went she got whats enough she cut her loses and bailed. it was nothing personal.

Sully to look after Drake, he didnt trust sam, and he felt he was being taken advantage of, he went there out of loyalty and friendship

Elena went to save her marriage, to save the man she loved, and out of loyalty to her husband.

when it comes to pacing, i feel it was shame, everytime as soon as things got really interesting and intense, bam boom.. a very long and slow puzzle or platforming section, where nate and who ever is with him would joke around... and at times these things were way too long and boring. specially the drives in Madagascar. i didnt like driving around, it was boring, it was dull. pacing in UC2/3 was way better. it always had that "on edge" feeling, UC4 never let you keep that for so long.

as far as gameplay goes, easily the best in the franchise, fudge the AI was a baby, they keep flanking you and they are hard, gotta keep moving around and being fast. some enemies were annoying as fudge, the shot guns specifically had insane range, and they were annoying. the sniper killing you on one shot on hard mode was annoying too. but overall the level desgin and combat was top notch, i really really enjoyed it.

The Madagascar car chase <3 best set piece ever created, my god... was it amazing... it was truly amazing.... so sad they didnt have anything life it later in the game... it was perfect.

other set pieces were good, i was hoping for more, but they were really good. specially the later ones in the pirate ship grave yard. and the larger more open combat sections made up for the lower number of set pieces, i just loved the level design.

the graphics are incredible, specially in the later stages of the game, in the earlier parts The Order looks better, but in the later stages its really really hard to say which looks better on a technical level, but artist wise UC4 >>> The Order, i took some shots in photo mode which were just fantastic. it was amazing to look at, and who ever doesnt believe there was a gap between gens just look at UC3 and then look at this. massive difference. fudge... is TLoU2 gonna look amazing, you could really have a feel of TLoU in later locations in UC4.
Everyone expected someone to die, that would have been the most obvious thing ND could have done. Not killing anyone is actually far more surprising but also, if you think about it, far more Uncharted of an ending. I don't think the series should have ended on such a depressing note, it just wouldn't fit.

Also we already knew that Nate wasn't really Sir Francis Drakes heir, we're told in 3 that Drake wasn't his real last name. He's so obsessed with it because of his mother, whose final research object was Sir Francis Drake before she died. Also Nate says in UC4 that after running away together the brothers spend a lot of time in prison either together or just one of them at the time, so Sam could've easily been in prison during Nate's time in Colombia.
what is said in UC3 doesnt say that they arent related to drake, one of his ancestors could have easily taken up another family name, but still be related to Sir Francis.

yeah the Ending is a happy ending, and its more of an uncharted type ending, but it wasnt the best one they could have had. again, it feels anticlimatic.

i also think we have a very strong idea what the story DLC will be. probably one of the jobs that Sam and Sully take on together.
I thought the ending was brilliant. It brought the characters closer together and showed that they all have heart and care more about each other than the treasure. I think if they killed someone off it would have been much worse.

Also the epilogue was fantastic and is what makes the ending as amazing as it is.

It's pretty much implied that they are not related in 3. That's what this whole thing with the name was about, there would be no weight behind someone calling him out on his last name not being Drake, if he just changed it so it was clearer that Francis Drake was one of his ancestors. I always took that scene in 3 as that and was fully expecting the 4th game to tell us who Nathan really is, so to speak.
