does the ps4 controller require line of sight?

so some of you probably saw my posts about me redoing my kitchen. part of that was moving my garage door into the living room which in turn means moving my tv/ps4 location.

previously both were on a shelf 24 inches deep so i could lay my ps4 horizontal. the new shelf is only 12 inches deep so my ps4 is going to need to be vertical.  a great place for it would be behind the tv somewhat.

am i going to have problems if the controller doesn't have full line of sight to the console?

It doesn't need line of sight, but walls and the like significantly shorten the distance.

Going through the TV might cause some problems imo. How far away at max do you want to be able to play?

What Legend said.

Just like WiFi, obstructions can affect the signal.  But not likely a problem.

TV could be an issue though.  Or it might be 100% fine.  Or 99% fine.

I could use my DS4 hitting X to grind JRPG from my kitchen 2 walls from my bedroom... when I back my battle was finished.

It worked...

I can only get ~10 feet when going through my bedroom wall with the door open.

It's because of the aliens in the wall.  They steal wifi.

Well my chicken is a bit more than 10 feets... 15-20 feets I guess.

The wall material matters a lot... my router can send WiFi signal near 100mts from my home even with the walls... there are places with the same router that it didn't get 20mts.

i wouldn't be any further back than a fairly normal distance,.. it is about 10 feet to the furthest corner of the couch.

Then you should be fine.
