It's a carbon fiber wrap I got of amazon.

I really like the way this looks. It's just too bad that the material is sub par. It doesn't stick in the curves well. So places does and others don't. I ordered some high quality stuff that is going to cost way too much to cover the whole desk. I also found another manufacturer that make the same thing but cost about half as much as the high end 3m stuff. So I'll order a sample of that as well and see what works better.  Worst case I order the 3m just for the top and paint the rest of the desk that dark grey I already have that I won't be using in the game room now,

Okay, So I got the high quailty 3m stuff in and it sticks so much better. But it cost 13 dollars just for this one drawer... But it's a world of difference. It still has a few issues with staying down in the really tight 90 degree corners because it's thicker than the other material but it's staying strong in the problem areas I had with the cheap stuff.

Cheap on the left expensive on the right.

So doing some dirty math, It would cost about 200 to cover my desk. 300 if I want to do the sides too. But I think I can use the cheaper brand there as I didn't have any problems with it across a flat surface.

I orders a sample of the mid grade stuff. Crossing my fingers hopping it works..

Okay I think I figured it out!

I'm going to get rid of the recessed areas of the desk. This will make it a lot better on whatever brand I choose to use. And yes for the drawers I might use cardboard it's perfect and cheap. It will probably feel nice and sold once I apply so liquid nails behind it although a thin wood would be better.  for the top I'll need to find some wood as it will  it will take more abuse.

It helps if I post my photo...

my opinion,... for $200 + labor that looks like shame.

get a $50 orbital sander + $10 in sandpaper + $30 in stain or paint + $10 in a paint brush.  spend ~$6 x 9 = $54 in more modern pulls for the draws.

cheaper and better!

And really you have to see it in person to see why I'm chasing this so hard. Looking past the flaws this feels fantastic.
