Today apple had a event to unveil the new hot products until new MacBooks in June and iPhone 7 in September.

The announces were really great. Mainly the new iPhone SE that I can describe like an 5S with Iphone 6S specs at $399.

Let's see what they showed...

iPhone SE

Not only apply back to 4" form factor (a request for lonely users that stopped in 5S... side note 30m iPhones 4" were sold last year Apple said) but did it in a great style.

  • 4-inch screen (1136‑by‑640‑pixel resolution at 326 ppi)
  • Apple's A9 chip and M9 motion coprocessor (same processing power than iPhone 6S)
  • 4K-capable 12MP iSight camera with Retina Flash, Focus Pixels, True Tone Flash, and a new image signal processor (4k video, 1080p at up to 60fps, slo-mo up to 240 fps, and Panoramas up to 63MP)
  • Faster LTE, voice over LTE support, Wi-Fi calling, Bluetooth 4.2, and improved battery life over the iPhone 5s.
  • Live Photos and always-on "Hey Siri".
  • Apple Pay (NFC chip)
  • 113 grams
  • About the same size of iPhone 5S
  • 16GB @ $399 / 64GB @ $499

The only "downgrades" compared with iPhone 6S are the lack of Touch Id 2nd Gen and 3D-touch... everything else is 6S like with 5S design.

9.7" iPad Pro

I cut the talk here.

It is the 12.9" iPad Pro with a 9.7" screen.

32GB @$599 / 128GB @ $749 / 256GB @ $899

Software Updates

  • tvOS 9.2
  • watchOS 2.2
  • OS X 10.11.4
  • iTunes 12.3.3
  • iOS 9.3

Other announces

  • Lightning to USB-C cable (faster iPad Pro charging)
  • New iPhone case options
  • New Apple Watch models and band colors

It's really low.
-Less than 1/4th of the resolution of the S6.
-Same resolution as the iPhone 5 from 2012.

It is 640 x 1136 (SE) vs 750 x 1136 (6S).

It is really a small difference.

Edit - Ohhhhh you said S6 and not 6S... my bad :(

I didn't realise iPhone screens had such low DPI.

S6 = 577 ppi
This = 326 ppi

I think they kinda stopped improving once they hit "retina display."

It is the same for iPad if I'm not wrong.

It is really a sharper screen.

Pics.

AnandTech nailed it.

QuoteIt's also worth noting that Apple is basically completely uncontested in this part of the market. Although there are a lot of budget phones out there using 4" screens to hit their respective price point, Apple seems to be the only OEM still playing in the 4" display size space for high-end phones. There are a few Android OEMs trying to keep phones at the 4.5-4.7" segment (i.e. iPhone 6s size) with similarly high-end specs, but no Android OEM is trying to sell a 4" phone with high-end hardware. It'll be interesting to see what kind of effects this has on sales, although I'm not entirely sure that Android OEMs are going to be following Apple's lead here as a smaller device makes battery efficiency more critical due to scaling effects.
There are no option for a high 4" phone on the market except SE right now.

I will finally replace my 5S that broke the screen in January.

Happy about the iPhone.  Phablets are dumb. I'm due for a phone but just can't bring myself to get a phablet so this is great news.

You could always get a z3 or a z5 compact.  Not quite 4inch, but it is probably the smallest most powerful phone.

i only spent a little bit of time with them but i can't say i like android.  feels cheap and needlessly complicated for what i care to do with a phone.  i get that some people are really into customizing their phone and android is a great OS for that but I find that to be a chore.

What feels cheap?  The Xperia line of phones was probably the most premium phone you could buy.  As far as Android being a chore, I don't see how it is more so?  First problem I had when I got my mom her iphone; I couldn't save a contact to the home screen so she could just press a button to call someone.  I could do it in a few steps with Android.  I need to buy an app to do that with an iPhone.  The actual functions of a phone are worse on iphone than they are on Android.

You have favorites for that.
If you go left on your home screen you will all your fav contacts icons.
Something like that.

To be fair no step is required because it already fill it with the last call contacts if you didn't choose favorites.

That requires two steps.  My mom doesn't understand what favourites are.
