As I said, either a last minute development scare or wanting to avoid launching so close to R&C.

But then they'd use these few extra weeks to fix more glitches.

There's no reason to go gold early and just sit around.

I'm on the "Naughty Dog delayed Uncharted 4 to meet demand" camp, though I also accept that Sony might have told ND to move the game back to make room for Ratchet & Clank.

No doubt but I don't know anything for sure except that you don't need 5 weeks to make a few million copies. The delay also came BEFORE they went gold. So they weren't even sure they were finished and they made the call to delay to up production? I'm still surprised any of you think it likely that they seemed to not know how many copies they'd need just a couple months before release.

I'm surprised anyone goes against all the evidence and bases an opinion on pure unsupported speculation that makes no sense

I don't know about the manufacturing side of things, but going gold early doesn't make sense either. Especially if it ends up having a day one patch.

If you have actual evidence I would love to see it. No, "Sony said so" is not evidence. Also, delaying a game because you don't want it to eat another alive makes sense and has happened before. I'm sure you could also find times when development was delayed because of a last minute issue you weren't sure would get worked out in time. There could be other reasons why it happened. I just don't buy "production timeline" as the reason and that's all there is to it. You have no evidence that it's true and I have no evidence it's false. So at this point it's just what we choose to believe. The root of the debate is whether or not you believe Sony didn't know how many copies they'd need to meet demand of a franchise that always sells millions but doesn't sell like Call of Duty. There would have had to have been a sudden explosion in pre-orders a few weeks ago.

Who knows?  They could've been doing finishing touches at the time.  They probably had a pretty good idea of when it was going to be complete.

Who knows how production goes?  Realistically there isn't some factory that is just sitting around waiting for Uncharted 4 to be complete, and then they start putting everyone to work. At the very least, it will be "sharing" to some extent, the production of other games.  Maybe even movies.

There probably was an explosion in pre-orders after Amazon and Bestbuy started their 20% off deals, in fact there definitely was one on Amazon.

Needing more than 5 weeks worth of production time for a franchise where a single title sells 6 million copies over 3 years on a platform with an install base over 80 million is either a case of incompetence on Sony's part for not properly preparing or there was another reason they don't want to admit to because saying "production issues" is easier for the masses to swallow and not want to burn you alive.

That's the thing though, this game won't sell 6 million over 3 years, it might ship that much or more in its first week. Uncharted 3 shipped 3.8 million units day one after all.
