Is it possible to group the games by platform? It will help with the organization.

the-pi-guy

I think we should just have it as a table.

Not at the moment.

I'm not sure how we want to handle platforms.

What we could do is:

Have the front page in a table format.
On that page we could have, Name, release date, platform.

Clicking on each name would bring you to a page, where you can edit each game's information.  This page is exactly what we have now.

Then have a section for platform PS2;PS3;PS4;PSVR;XBO;VIVE;
Then we should have a search, with an editable text box.
So if I put "PS" in, it'll search for every game that has PS something, ie PS2, PS3, PSVR, etc.

Maybe?

Also to make the database more accessible, what you could do is to add it by the shop and RPG, and have a little drop down box that directs people to the editable game database as well as one for their profile.

I kinda like the idea of it being text based for platform.

Have you seen the sort/filter added to the profile page?

Accessibility is important, but probably should get the kinks worked out before worrying about that  ::)

EDT: a games a game, regardless of what platform. Does knowing/specifying platform really matter that much? IE as the person viewing your games or viewing someone else's games, is it something you'd highly value?

The platform is not really the concern. I was just suggesting a way to make the database more organized so that adding games can go faster.

Oh you're talking about the database side of things. I completely missed that  :-[

Mmm_fish_tacos

It looks like a few games have been added today.

Yep, it looks good.

I kind of like it being text based, and I kind of don't.
I like it because, then there wouldn't have to be this list of every arbitrary platform and whatever.  If Basil plays some atari game and wants to add it to the list, that could be useful.

But I don't like it, because there is the possibility of getting away from the ease of use.  If people start putting in "Playstation 4" or "PlayStation 4" instead of "PS4", searching for "PS" would no longer give you all the options.

Yes.  It could be utilized as a nice way to find games for a particular platform.  Not to the sense of "oh, Legend played this game on Xbox One, Geez, what's wrong with that guy."
But on the other hand, if I go to Legend's games and see "oh he really loved 'The Witcher 4', let's see, it's on PS4, Xbox One, PC.  Cool I should get it."

On the user profile there absolutely does not need to be any sort of platform, but for the database, I think it could be utilized really well for a lot of purposes, especially since we already have a database.

Realistically I think we need to focus on what's fast to do atm. If setting up a game in the database takes more than a few seconds then people will be offput from adding them in mass. Tons of additional information would be fun to have but that stuff's so readily available elsewhere. Might make sense to just link games with their wikipedia articles. Then when it comes time where we want more detailed information, we could even have a bot copy the data from the wiki.

On user profiles, I can set it up so that it restricts platforms. "PlayStation 4," "PS Four," "Playstation4," etc. would all be converted to "PS4" when submitting.
