Quotehttp://www.mysanantonio.com/news/us-...witter-desktop
QuoteAssociate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said. Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

Found an article answering my question. Longest nomination process was Thomas at 107 days. Most recent ones are done within three months. http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/0...ion-timelines/

Stakes just got higher for the presidential race. I hope the new justice will:

- Adhere to the separation of church and state (and when I say church, I mean all religions, not just Christianity)
- Be against the Citizens United decision
- Understand that the freedom of speech includes the right to offend and is against political correctness

Just a few thoughts I want to put out there.

i hate how mcconnel and the republicans turned this into a political thing within hours of his death being announced.

the constitution is pretty clear " the president "shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint...Judges of the supreme Court."".  we can't and shouldn't go over a year without a supreme court just because republicans are hoping they might win the election.

one way or another the next president is still likely to appoint 2 or more judges themselves.  just do it and stop being "constitutionalists so long as the constitution says something i want to hear but otherwise it will be completely disregarded."

The same group that has people supporting Ted Cruz when the Constitution says that, technically, he's not allowed to be President.

only in the "i refuse to acknowledge hundreds of years of time as passed since the constitution was written".

all the constitution says is "natural born" and ted didn't have to go through naturalization due to the way the naturalization process works these days allowing for dual citizenship for babies.  he should be allowed to run for president as far as i'm concerned.

the longest confirmation process for any supreme court justice so far is 107 days.   it is currently 339 days until inauguration day 2017.  it will take another few months at least for the next president to nominate and get congressional approval.  that is a fudge long of a wait.

Well, everyone seems to be making it a political thing.  The thread on GAF is mostly people just saying what's going to happen.  Very little of it is actually about the death.

Everyone just wants to know what it means politically.

It very much depends on how one interprets natural born citizen.
