Yes, think you can even buy it on the Wii U on the Wii shop, but it'll only be playable in Wii Mode. And you miss out on benefits.

Apparently a classic controller is required for the Wii Mode.
Whereas with the Wii U eshop you can play it right on the gamepad, controls and all.
