Background story:

I got my kid into video games. He loves playing "teddy" (little big Planet) and rayman with me. He is actually impressive and can get through levels with minimal help. He plays my sister's DS that has Lego pirates of the Caribbean.

So, I was thinking about Christmas gifts and I was thinking about getting a Wii U for him. However, I really don't want to spend 300+,dollars on a new system so when I was in gamestop I came across Lego Dimensions and Disney Infinite and thought they were perfect. But both have characters he'd love. He likes Darts Vader and star wars. But he also likes Ninjago and just Lego stuff...

Anyone have any tips or suggestions on these two games?

Legend

Disney Infinity is centered around a mode called the toy box, essentially a little big planet creation engine. Might be a bit too complex for your kid to make stuff, but there's a large amount of stuff to play made by devs/other people. Characters are essentially star wars, marvel, and disney.

Lego Dimensions is kind of open world with different levels for different IPs. Plays a lot like Lego City if you've seen that. The toys need to be physically built like real legos.  Gameplay seems a bit more variad/advance than infinity. Characters are everything. Scoobie doo, Back to the Future, the simpsons, wizard of oz, portal, batman and friends, dr who, jurassic world, lego movie, and lord of the rings.

Both offer splitscreen.

No, that'd cost money!

I watched gametrailers play them on twitch: Twitch

Lol, but I was hoping this thread would give me more info. Legend covered the gameplay aspect but I'm wondering about the game itself. Is it story progression with an end point? What is the game itself like.

What are the power chips in Disney Infinite?

I read that Lego Dimensions has no intention of making a sequel like Disney Infinite... But rather character content. Is this in the form of new figures sold at the store or is it DLC on the PSN?
