The best interpretation for MS PR spin for now... well it is based in my own interpretation (but using better explanation) so take with a huge grain of salt.

That's a third interpretation, you really think they are talking about all and not just about hardware?

That is exactly what they are doing. Microsoft lists the factors like saying point one, two, and three, and then says what those points led to. Let's break down the PR statement into the points being made and follow that with the conclusion:
  • Point #1: Worldwide Xbox Black Friday sales in the Xbox Store broke records with an increase of 57 percent across Xbox One and Xbox 360,
  • Point #2: global Xbox Live Gold subscriptions were up over 40 percent,
  • Point #3: and U.S. Xbox One console sales at retail were up 22 percent over the same period last year,
  • Conclusion: making it the second biggest Black Friday week in 15 years of Xbox history in the U.S.
An analogous sentence structure would be: You eat my food, don't clean up after yourself, and late paying your share of the the rent, making you the worst roommate I've ever had. The key is the ", and" between point #2 and point #3 indicating that all three phrases should be taken as items in a list. Without that interpretation Point #1 and Point #2 aren't grammatically correct. They'd have to be followed by periods, not commas.

Not like it matters much since 360 likely didn't sell much

They might not be taking about hardware when they say 2nd biggest Xbox bf. I've decided I'm never going on vgchartz again. What a joke. I'm reading GAF more now anyway

I mean, that mistake happened with Nintendo when journalists were referring to SW as "console sales", but that error came from the writers, not PR.. This should indeed be about HW. I think it's just a matter of realising the idea that cheaper consoles are indeed selling more rather than suffering from front loaded numbers, and that October was a fluke with people simply waiting for better deals. Plus, it's in line with what we know about the UK. PS4 should be substantially up too, it was up in the UK, and will be even more up in the US because last year PS4 competed in the UK but didn't do much in the US. So ps4 up % should be well above 28%

Dr. Pezus

Seems like PS4 has already been adjusted up a bit in both EU and USA to 1.33m WW

Rorono

Still under tracked by over a million so does it really matter

PS4 - 686k
X1 - 804k

Jesus christ the data that website is receiving is utterly worthless.

And the PS4 supposedly wins by only 14k in the week of Battlefront ffs, making them claim the X1 as the leading console for November, seriously ioi fix your moronic algorithm that you've probably just carried over from the 360 and which still thinks holidays + US + Xbox = leading console. What load of bull.

Seriously, this is almost agitating at this point.
I have always been under the impression that they receive no data at all. I am 100% confident in that for Japan, Asia and RoW and I just extend that to Europe and NA. I mean, what retailers would be divulging sales figures to a brit who runs a fanboy/console war website?

I always find users who are guessing to be very close.

He doesn't but for legal reasons he has to pretend he does.

Ever notice how in Japan media create or Famitsu isn't copied?  He takes an average of the two meaning the numbers are always different.

It's literally all guess work using other sources be it amazon,  NPD,  chart track UK,  media create,  Famitsu etc.

The reason why they are so bad now is because ioi doesn't give a shame.

It's obvious he lost motivation and who can blame him.  How boring is it making those same charts,  every week for almost 10 years.  I'm surprised he stuck with it this long.

So yeah it's just his guesses.  We could do a similar job ourselves.

Yup, I mean, if you know how the market reacts to certain events than you can make charts that are believe able. Study the market and you can get close and believe able charts. But I have always said, if ioi didn't have regular shipment data or any outside information then he'd be as far off as consolewars.com was. And they had the PS3 at like 10m years after it launched. The people who made it just had a ticker counting up. It was accurate at first because they used average sales but they just abandoned it right after. So when events like Christmas sales, price cuts and major game releases happened the ticker never accounted for it.

Microsoft, you're going to have to do better than this.
