Look at the freaking subtitles...Why the hell are they covered by a black box...and why the hell do they pick the most random bright colors when it doesn't fit in what's happening with the game...

AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO IS ANNOYED BY THIS!?!?!

Yeah, that's annoying.

For some reason I thought you were saying that they just copied and pasted the subtitles from the last game, so nothing made sense.  :P

No but they have the exact same layout in the last game. Black border outline and random colors. I always have subtitles when I play a game but I turned that shame off for Tomb Raider 2013. So distracting

i always turn off subtitles so i guess i can't get upset but this.

...but the boarders makes sense.  it makes sure the sub title is always readable regardless of the background with could be any color from black to white.  not sure about the bright colors of the text though,.. that's odd.

The colors are to distinguish who is talking. It's for deaf people. The ones who actually need the captions

Or you could just, you know, look at who's lips are moving maybe?

Subtitles aren't only for deaf people. Sometimes I can't quite make out what a person is saying and that's when I take a quick glance at the subtitles. Or if maybe a character has a weird accent I can't quite understand.

Neverdies almost always plays with subtitles

I often watch netflix with subtitles.

Having subtitles is great. Some voices might sound low and hard to hear. Subtitles are nice because you never need to worry about missing something

And if the scene is scaling up a mountain to show you a path you have to take while a conversation is still going on... Then how do you know who is talking?

Simple, have the character say something like "Lara we have to get to the top of the mountain!" Instead of just "we have to get to the top of the mountain!"
This way we know it's not Lara talking but the other person.

Obviously  don't do that all the time but that's something they could do whenever you can't see the person's face.

I love subtitles, I even use them for movies but when their weirdly colored of way too big I turn it off because it is extremely distracting.

That sounds like terrible script writing there

What if you're in a room listening through a door at a conversation.

"Bob, we need to do this"
"Well Chris, I think it needs to be done this way first"
"Bob, I think this way will be better."
"but Chris..."

Ect ect

Any rational person can tell when one character stops talking and another starts. Just look at the way the conversation flows.

Besides I even said they don't need to do it all the time.

The conversation could go something like

"Bob we need to do this"
"OK I agree but I believe it needs to be done this way"
"That doesn't sound like it'll work, heres how I think it should be done"
" I disagree for such and such reasons..."

Ect...you can tell when one person ends their sentence and when another begins.

And if it's an argument and they are talking over each other?
