Assuming that the XBO sold 15 million, a 30% attachment rate means 4.5 million sales. If that were the case, we would not have gotten the kind of PR Microsoft gave today.

Do you have some numbers of your own?

He's low balling the consoles sold. I think it's taken the lions share of xbox ones sold this month. I'm going to put it closer to 300k @ 500 = 150 Million 2.3 Million copies sold @ 60 = 139 million now we are at 289M. Which is too low even if controller count. Or people bought a tone of req packs which didn't happen.

so

Consoles 350k = 175m
Games 3 M = 180
Game up charges 200k@40 8m
Leaving 37 Million for controller and Micro transactions

So 3.35 Million copies sold first week?

You're forgetting LE game sales. One was $99, the other was $249. Plus the $400 mil could be sold to retailers, which then means we'd need to know how much they sell for direct.

NPD will be our one true savior as long as we get leaks.

I didn't include the 249, you can add that in the left over pot, but I did include the 99 dollar version in the "game up charge" which i put at 200k@40  which might be quite low. I'm just not sure how well 100 dollar games sell.

For week one, they'd be a pretty significant percentage.

Halo sales are the truth we are supposed to be hunting.  ;)

If only we knew the percentage we could know how many sold..
The req prize money thing Is a good idea.  More companies should use the micro transactions for things like prize funds or some free dlc.  I guess gta 5 does with the dlc they just don't brag about it.

"The end of Spintober, we celebrated the launch of the highly anticipated, best selling Spin 5, with you our fans. Spin 5 debuted with the biggest launch of any Xbox Exclusive Spin in the history of the Xbox Spinning.. XBL spinners showed continued dizziness as they spun more webs online with Spin 5 than any other Xbox Game. The Spin Limited Edition Bundle was the highest spinning Xbox system for the month of Spintober. But, we are not done. This Spin Season, we will continue to Spin more titles from the Greatest Spun Web in Xbox History, proving once again, the Xbox One is the "best place to spin" this Holiday."

Japan line up for the rest of the year. PS4 line up is actually very good and they're getting a minecraft retail edition.
Sales should be up nicely this November and December.

Bruno posted something interesting...

Quote from: Bruno MBFirst week sales revenue for Halo 2 and 3.

Halo 2 - £9.7 million / 260,000 units
Halo 3 - £16.9 million / 370,000 units
Halo 5 - £7.7 million (day one)

It is fair to say that first week sales revenue at least matched Halo 2 even taking into account that sales were possibly frontloaded. There is also the fact that Halo 5 was released on Tuesday so it had 5 days of tracking.

Looks like they included hardware too because week 1 in UK is 150k.

BTW I was thinking a little about the Xbox One Halo Bundle... and 300k for US and 100k outside US is possible... 400k WW?
I expect Xbox One to sell at least 400k in Oct NPD.

ethomaz

I will try to explain.

They included the hardware? Oh dear.
Maybe someone can explain because I don't get the numbers to add up for previous game releases unless they counted hardware as well. Halo 3 made $300 million first week, that would add up to a whole lot more games sold first week than any official numbers.

300k x $130 (that was only US but well): $39m
4.35m x $60 = $261m

How many copies Halo 3 sold week 1?

They are not including hardware lol maybe his math is really bad.

Mmm_fish_tacos

I was thinking, and they probably included all xbox sold in the month and adding that into the total. As they can say the none halo bundles also count because it's halo, and if your buying a Xbox One in October it's because of halo.

ethomaz

I had to explain GAF too.

TL;DR: All past revenue reports/PR include hardware

Your own data didn't match your claim. Halo 3 in 2007 $170m revenue day one $300m+ revenue first week. $399 limited edition console (limited to 200k units) $129 legendary edition game $69 limited edition game $59 standard game no dlc or microtransactions 300k LE x $129 = ~$40m 4.3m x $60 = ~$260m How do you include hardware for Halo 3? 200k units was $80m. ~4.7m week 1 WW is what it sold from estimate we know. There is no hardware included in past revenues... if you remove $80m from the hardware the math will never fits... it will give you about ~3m copies sold week 1... Halo 3 sold more than that. It did possible over 1m copies sold in EU alone.

Yeah, most gaming journalists won't take the time to think about what's behind a PR statement like and the ones that do might not be bothered since it would only get them called out as "Sony biased" by the Halo defense force, which is really strong with this one at least in certain places.

Btw. how obvious is it that Kowenicki incidently decided to make his chertz comeback in this time of the year? He did the exact same thing last, came out to run his mouth during the holiday season when the Xbox does well and then disappeared at the start of the next year

Dr. Pezus

Most math is using just 60 dollars but it costs more than that in most of the world
