i bought a bit of a fixer-upper.  i can spread some of the work to be over years of time but things like the dry wall being rotted out in the downstair bath really can't wait too long.  i can't really use that shower until the water damage is repaired for instance.    also they left the house unoccupied for the entire summer,.. getting the yard cleaned up for winter was tons of work.   and then there is the bit about this house being like 3-4x bigger than my condo.  lots of furniture to buy and whatnot.  there is just always more to do.

my next target is the fix the hole in the house.  the last guy apparently wanted to watch TV on the deck so he drilled a hole all the way through the house so he could put a cable line to the deck.   fixing the drywall is easy enough but the hole in the siding is a bit harder to patch.  but i want it fixed soon,.. winter is coming.

This is why you should build a new house, or let someone build it for you

What kind of interest rate are you pushing.  :o

@pezus you'll pay twice the amount for the home if you finance it.

So a  200k home will cost you 400k ish over 30 years.

Most of the time it's cheaper here too. But buying a foreclosed home can be even better.

my interest rate was 3.75%

my house is old and out of date so i got a really good deal for the neighboorhood at 600k.  new rebuilds in my neighborhood on my lot size start at $1.5M.  more if it is nice.

My parents built this house. Probably $30k, and it's valued much much higher than that.  I want to say 170k+ range.
