As you can see, I'm trying something very experimental. I thought it would be cool if we look at the rankings across all retailers and check on them periodically. The red numbers indicate the top ranking SKU from each retailer. I noticed that I missed a few XBO bundles, but I got too far into the table and I don't know how to add rows to an existing one...

Judging by that I'd say XB1 is top at gamespot... but I think PS4 has this month now, unless retail sales are huge on halo launch day I can't see an XB1 recovery.

Ps4 is going to be huge in November up to BF but then it all depends on the deals for who wins BF, I'll be shocked if PS4 doesn't take it overall though.

Quote from: Legend on Oct 25, 2015, 05:34 AMTomb Raider was a smart idea IMO.

The purchase was great, game is coming during a nice holiday, and PR made everyone think it was exclusive. Problems only started in the last few months. PS4 port being officially revealed, releasing the same day as Fallout, not having a bundle, lack of marketing, etc. It feels like the title stopped being a major point for Microsoft.
I honestly don't think the purchase was smart at all, it was a rash decision, presumably made by Spencer, to counter UC4. It didn't take a ton of stuff into account and must have just been naive in other areas.

MS must have thought that people wouldn't pick up on their wording, but the reality was that people immediately found fault in the whole "exclusively in 2015" thing and assumed it was timed. MS should know that TR was always the weakest on their platform and must have thus assumed that fans on other platforms would just accept the exclusivity and jump ship, the reality was the exact opposite.

Then you have the release window, I know that MS loves throwing all their games into the last quarter, but they must have had a decent idea even about the 3rd party releases in that timeframe, so releasing TR in a 3 week window with Halo 5, CoD, Fallout 4 and Battlefront seems like more than a slight oversight.

Finally the game had the same amount of marketing up to this point that most AAA games get, it's got playable demos at E3 and Gamescom, was featured prominently in MS' press events, got quite a few gameplay videos out as well as press impressions, it's just that it doesn't seem to be working. The Rise of the Tomb Raider video on Youtube with the highest viewcount has 2.6 million clicks and even that was obviously achieved by using the trailer as an ad on other videos, compare that to the other big games releasing around it or to UC4 that it was supposed to go up against and it doesn't even seem like a fair comparison.

Over the last year 90% of TR discussion was about it's exclusivity status, with some fanboys being extremely adamant about it never coming to PS4 because of some stupidly constructed reasoning. The moment the whole platform situation was cleared up it got real quiet around TR, people on other platforms don't really have anything to discuss about the game anymore since it's still farther away and with the exclusivity arguing Xbox fanboys gone you're left with the normal level of interest this game would gather on Xbox and that seems to be low to mediocre.

TR was a terrible acquisition. It sold better on ps and it's not a good enough franchise to make people move. There was one reboot. That's not enough time to create fans that must have the next iterations. People can skip the next one without blinking an eye. But Ms just butchered it from the start with the whole exclusive 2015 nonsense and paying for a game to not be made.

So basically a bad deal.  I know it could of been handle better but no matter what they did it was never going to sell extremely well to justify the deal.

All the ps tomb raider and pc fans who never gamed on xbox were never going to buy an xbox for this and it was always heavily rumoured and pretty much confirmed to only be holiday exclusive by Phil Spencer and Microsoft long before square Enix ever did.

And for all we know in the contract square Enix were allowed announce the other platforms then.  Sure they could slip up but no way would they make it available for pre order without it being in their contract.

And that would explain why Microsoft never pretending it was exclusive,  because they knew it wasn't long until the other versions were revealed.

Excuse me. What the hell do you think you're doing? Long winded and thoroughly worded posts are MY thing around here.  :P

Also, I agree.

gamrConnect Forums - Charts Announcement

QuoteHey guys,

So some good news. Brett has agreed to teach me how to do the weekly charts. From now on I'll be uploading the charts with the help of Will and with Brett walking me through the first set and then acting in an advisory/support roll.

My first chart went live yesterday (not without issues; the totals were borked, but it's now been fixed), and the French one should be along shortly.

 Here are my plans:

 - Get us caught up as quickly as possible. We're some 8 weeks behind, and there are 8 charts to do each week. ~64 is a lot of charts to do and as I'm still learning on the job and everything is very time consuming it's going to take a while to get caught up. Please be patient!

- The good news is this means I can promise frequent chart updates and that we will get caught up again. Once we're caught up it should be smooth riding from there on; we won't fall behind again unless we have a problem receiving raw data or a technical issue with the website.

 - Regarding more accurate tracking what I'd love to be able to do is create a thread where you guys can link to official announcements and such so that we can take that data, compare it with our own, and make adjustments accordingly so that we can increase the accuracy of VGC's figures. That's not something I think we've made enough use of before; figures based on retail data that is then extrapolated can never be 100% accurate but using official announcements to improve them can only be a good thing. I've not been taught how to deal with adjustments yet so I can't make any promises, but for now what I will do is gather that data and ask Brett about the adjustments process.

Woah! Suddenly I'm looking forward to seeing VGC numbers again.

Hopefully he'll be better at involving the community in the numbers. I was tired of Brett releasing numbers which went against common sense and not changing them when people constantly complained.

Huh, well that's some unexpectedly good news. Will be fun to finally be able to look at somewhat current numbers on the chertz again, even if they are somewhat inaccurate.

Yeah, sounds like he will take a while to catch up but hopefully he can be up to date by the time BF comes around. It'd be a shame if he just missed the holiday season
