UC3 for example took me 8 hours and 40 minutes to finish, on hard. however it had online multiplayer with like 5 modes. AND online Co-Op. multiplayer adds a lot of value (well, at least good multiplayer, unlike Tomb Raiders multiplayer).
Campaign length is important because of story and pacing. A short campaign sucks not because the game is a universally bad value, but because it's a poor campaign.

ahh i was talking about value. not quality. though the 7 hours from the order werent that much in quality either.

also the number of blue team missions in halo 5 seems to be out there.

Spoiler for Hidden:
apparently you only play as the blue team in 3 missions from a total of 15 missions in halo 5. im guessing people are going to be pissed. about that

The funny part about that is rumor spread a while back that most of the game would be played as Locke and fanboys threw a fit that everyone was just spreading FUD. I think 343 even came out and denied it which is why the rumors stopped, if I'm remembering correctly.

That spoiler seems wrong. 3 is so low that getting the characters play ready wouldn't really be worth it.

Yikes that spoiler is correct.

Also I found the first guy on gaf to give a length. He beat it on Heroic in 8 hours.

Some of the 15 missions are non-combat, which only take 5 minutes unless you are a completionist. That sounds pretty cool and has me intrigued but it hurts the game length even more.

BananaKing

So what did he say about the game itself?

Based off his other comments he's a Halo 343 fanboy but he liked it.

General vibe I've got from impressions is that the story and campaign are average at best but the combat feels great.

Ludicrous Speed

Good thing there's MP and online co-op so I don't have to worry about campaign length.

Warzones look kinda neat but I have no interest in 4v4 arena. Disappointed that the standard multiplayer experience isn't there at launch but at least it's coming at some point. The thing about Halo, though, is that it was always prized for its campaigns. If it really does end up being a short and dull campaign there will be a lot of upset Halo fans.

Halo 4 divided the franchise and produced "343i Halo fans." These people didn't mind Halo 4's campaign, so I doubt they'll mind here.

It sounds like it may be shorter than Halo 4 and possibly mediocre. There are a lot of Halo fans (not just 343i fans) who seem to be giving them the benefit of the doubt. Read a number of comments like, "Didn't care for Halo 4's campaign but I'm expecting better from this", or some variation like it. I'll put it simply. If the prevailing opinion is that 343i messed up the campaign, their reputation may be damaged for quite some time if not permanently. Which will probably translate into a significant decline in Halo's popularity. Halo's story mode has been just as important to its success as its multiplayer.

The fans, actual Halo fans, are very unforgiving about story screw ups. Hell, I remember tons of comments on how the UNSC frigate design was retconned in Halo 4 and how pissed that made them. I wasn't quite as rabid, but I didn't like the liberty 343i unnecessarily took with something like that. It was almost like they were saying, "fudge Bungie and what you liked about their style. This is ours now and we'll do as we please". Was that literally the mentality? Doubt it but it still would seem that way to die hard Halo fans who fell in love with what Bungie made.

I agree with you, but there will still be a large group of people that will praise Halo 5's campaign as the best one yet.

Speaking of franchise decline, I don't think it'll be too bad in the long run. Most long term Halo fans will leave if 5 is like 4 but again 343i has their fans. As long as 343i continues the "screw Bungie, we're doing this our way" mentality, they'll be able to rebuild the franchise after Halo 5. Numbers probably won't ever match past Halo's, but the franchise will never have any fears of dying. Fans who like the new games will keep buying them as if it was a new series. The worst thing would be if 343i tries to recapture the Bungie fans and make Halo 6 a "back to the roots" game. Bungie fans don't have faith in 343i so they wouldn't return and 343i fans wouldn't like the changes.

I'm still hoping though that come Monday the game will be great, but man have I dropped into pessimism with recent news.

Oh I completely agree that Halo won't die until Microsoft decides they don't want to do it anymore for whatever reason. I'm a part of the Halo fan camp that thinks changes are needed. The formula can't stay the same in today's market.

Think Halo 6 will be 2017?
