Amazon.com: Audio Technica ATHADG1 Open-Back Gaming Headset: Electronics

These are the gaming version of a set of head phones I bought a year ago. These will absolutely kick the shame out of anything you're playing with now. With the included USB Dac/Amp it solves the problems of needing a Mix Amp or Headphone amp and dac that can make building your own headset expensive. I can only speak for the open back head phones but the positional audio you'll get with these are insane. These make battlefield feel like you're standing in an open field and before long you'll be turning your in game avatar in the direction of sound just like you would in real life. I just bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990, in fact I just opened them today. I'll test them out of a week, but it looks like I'll be returning them and getting these the help clean up my set up.

This guy does a pretty good review, but I don't agree with him about the head band. I find that mine fit perfectly and I don't have the sliding problem he does, Then again I don't flail my head around while I game. And most of the time I forget they are on, unlike my new set of head phones.

That's not how sound works!

Check this video out with any headphone set and be amazed.

lol, I've listen to that before. I think I posted that here. Maybe in my last headphone thread.  It's sounds awesome. On just about anything. But does sound better on my headphones.

Have you tried a pair of open backs?

Another good review.

These things are also a year old. How did i go a whole year with out noticing these head phones?

Also that the expensive bit. You can get the normal headphones these are modeled after for 100 bucks, but then you'll need a mic which can run from 20 - 50 and and amp/dac and a decent one would cost about 75 or 125 for the mixamp. And then you have to deal with the clutter. Which the gaming set up solves quite a bit of.

IF you want PC headphones then these would work and depending on your sound card you might not need anything else.

You could also just plug it into the DS4 but at that point you'd be better off with the golds which are on sale at bestbuy right now for 75 bucks.

I have to say, wowza!!!!
That was nuts!
Best description of hearing and best use of sound I've ever heard.  Fantastic example.

I was almost freaking out at points, could have sworn I felt something. :oo

I'm a man of priorities, really expensive audio headsets like that are pretty much at the bottom.
There are thousands of things I'd rather spend that kind of money on.
-food
-money towards a piano or a car
-microphone
-new smart device
-games
-VR headset
-plane ticket
Etc

I practically feel guilty spending 15$ on earbuds.

Well one day after you become a programmer or computer engineer (?) You'll look at stuff and prices differently.

As I see it, this is my hobby and if I want to spend 200 bucks on a set of sweet headphones than so be it. I've spent way more money on stupid shame that i'll never get as much use out of.

Take dating in FL for example. You know how many times I took a girl to Disney? and how many times that actually worked for me? at least 8 times and nearly once.

I'm not sure about that.  I'll certainly be willing to spend more money on some things, but probably not headphones.

Not (intentionally) dissing your hobby man!  There's just things I'd rather spend money on.

Like these books.
