Guess this is actually big enough to get a thread, since it just keeps going.

Basically Reddit fired one of their staff members without finding a replacement. Tons of subreddits got screwed up by this, and now most subreddits are protesting and going "dark." They are all temporarily shut down.

Reddit is dead.

I didn't know the staff was so well liked? Or is it just because know one is keeping up with the subs that pissed everyone off?

Most of the staff is strongly disliked, but the one they fired was one of the few well liked ones. As far as I can tell at least.

Is this a bit of an over reaction or is Reddit in deep shame right now?

The way reddit works is that it's a free forum host basically. Say you wanted a place to talk about panda paw prints. You could make the panda paw prints subreddit. Then any reddit user can post or follow it.

For new members, reddit has subs that are followed by default. They have millions of members and are often closely working with reddit admins and staff.

To protest this thing yesterday, almost all of these subreddits shut themselves down. Reddit atm is a ghost town, with most posts being about the incident and nothing else.

Well that is pretty bad then, its a huge site though. I'm sure it will recover

There's a petition going on calling for the CEO of Reddit to step down.
