I'm going to balk every time Microsoft says exclusive from now on...

This probably doesn't mean anything since Larry is just a PR guy, but an interesting response to boogie2988's Tweet nonetheless.

If I was the boss of xbox...

Port windows 10 to the system. Have it play any and all pc games. Runs them at ok settings but runs them none the less.

Force xbo games to include pc versions if the game is also on pc. This is like cross buy, but the two versions are treated as one. Ie buy Fallout 4 for xbo/pc from steam. Then on xbo it asks "This game has been optomized for Xbo. Install optimized version?" The consumer stops thinking of xbo and pc games as sepperate.

Then a policy would be passed that xbo exclusives cannot be made. Either pc+xbo or just pc is ok.

By this point the xbo is practically a reference console, but still has the power of a closed system for xbo optimized games.

This leads to the release of xbox one 2.0. It is a true reference pc with no special hardware. To the consumer this is a stronger xbox. Owners of the first xbo are not out of luck. Even though optimized games will quickly drie up, the system can keep running pc games.

Result: consumers and pubs stay happy during the transition to just a reference box. At no stage does it feel that microsoft is abandoning xbo, and at no stage does it feel like the experience is downgraded. Microsoft wins out by exiting the hardware war, fully able to focus on content.
