Anybody think the last season of the umbrella academy absolutely sucked?

Nah it's good enough I binged in an afternoon. But I do feel it was dumb to be 6 episodes. I think 10 would have been better. Felt a bit rushed for 6

There's lots of older shows that would have recaps for older episodes and a lot of them get slightly rewinded for commercial breaks.

I assume that a lot of this has disappeared in the age of streaming and commercial-free binge watching.

It's so weird watching a regular tv show on streaming. Without commercial breaks it just feels odd lots of times.

One movie I watched felt like they maybe planned to have commercial breaks because the scene transitions were just weird fades almost every time. Maybe that zack snyder film, don't remember.

So season 2 of rings of power is even worse  :P

How, how do these companies spend so much money on something without having an understanding of what people want?

the-pi-guy

I feel like my standards for animation is lower than my standards for live action.

Live Action: "this is one of the best shows ever? I guess I'll try to watch it."

Animation: "Oh this looks neat and it's above average."

Legend

I'm definitely the opposite since I try to avoid animation  8)

I got "Family Guy Part 1", first 5 seasons for pretty cheap on DVD.

In most respects it looks fine. But it is also probably in a complicated way one of the worst DVDs I've gotten.

There's a lot of scenes that are unstable. Like the scenes are literally shaking, and it looks blurrier in motion than it does paused.

And while the video is 480p, even checked, it's like the animation itself for only some of the scenes is interlaced.

So you get this ugly double image effect.

Topaz might fix the interlacing. But I can't fix the stabilization issues.

Weird. The interlacing thing I can at least understand, but why would this dvd have stabilization issues when none of your other dvds have them?

It's definitely a source issue.

You can even kind of see it in this YouTube video:

As if the lines in the outer walls of the house, are like bouncing between two rows of pixels.

And it only looks worse with higher resolution versions of the content.

the-pi-guy

Does seem like the stabilization issue only affects the first few episodes.  Seems to disappear after that (although could be a sampling bias on my part)

Legend

I see that.

I'm sure an image AI could fix it. Just train a lora on some crystal clear screen shots. Then put in every single frame, maybe using control net and some animation tool to keep each subsequent frame more consistent.

Just gotta let your GPU run for a few weeks. Totally worth it.

Last time on Only Murders in the Building I had a hunch who the killer was on the first episode and something in episode 2 made me pretty confident I was right. I ended up being right.

So this season I also have a hunch who the killer is. Not confident in it at all yet, it really is just a gut feeling at most, but it sure will be amusing if lightning strikes twice.
