I was never really a big Disney fan. But I think one of their issues is that they stopped releasing new IP continously.

They are relying mostly on their live action remakes, starwars, and marvel.

I cant remember the last time Disney released something new that was considered special.
disney and like litterally everyone else too.  we are in an age of remakes and reboots.   TLoU1 for instance....

...but even then disney has had some good new stuff recently.  encanto is only 2 years old.  raya too although that didn't seem to hit it so big even if i personally thought it was the better movie.  turning red was just last year.      ...but yes, remakes is a huge part of their release schedule right now.

Into the spiderverse was amazing. Glad this is also great and a success.

Elemental opened today and is bombing. Lightyear made $5.2 million on its first day which was pretty bad. Elemental just did $2.4 million.

Elemental has similar reviews so without the toy story brand it might end its run lower than lightyear and lose $100+ million at the box office.

Box Office: 'The Flash' Zipping To $9M Thursday Previews - Deadline

Edt: Elemental now set for a $33 million opening weekend. If it holds, it'll be the worst opening for a Pixar movie ever. Lightyear did $50 million and Onward which released at the start of the pandemic is their current lowest at $39 million.

Legend

Oh no. Elemental did $29.5 million over the weekend, a full $10 million below Pixar's previous worst opening.

It will need great legs to not be the worst bomb in Pixar history, since it's a very expensive film.

Legend

Lol Disney is trying to push that all original movies are doing poor and this isn't their fault. They're saying Toy Story 5 and Inside Out 2 will be fine.

If they're good they'll be fine but Disney has had most of their old ip flopping too.

They are too formulaic now. Switch that shame up. Take a risk and blow our minds with something really cool. Don't know what that is but there's enough amazing creatives that can do it somehow.

Calculations from this person and images here.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has made $14 million in profit so far. Amazing that this will potentially be Disney's only profitable box office movie this year. For comparison Spiderman has made $39 million profit so far and is still selling well.

The little mermaid has lost $160 million at this point. It's still selling so it won't be that horrendous, but it's likely to be one of Disney's biggest flops thanks to its crazy budget. If it had a normal budget it would have still been a disappointing box office run.

Elemental just launched so the numbers don't really matter at this point. If it's lucky it will have good legs and lose less than $100 million.

Indiana Jones is a week away and has the potential to be the biggest bomb in history. It cost $300 million just to make.

Yeah agreed. Predictable movies can be great like Top Gun, Avatar, and Mario but audiences are tired of Disney's formula.

Thank god for James Cameron for making them so much money from way of water

Haha for sure. That made like $500 million in profit, although Cameron took ~$100 million of it.

Thinking about next year...

Elio could do fine. Doesn't look like a billion dollar movie but should do better than Elemental.

Snow White is too hard to predict. Nothing has been released except the cast but as long as it's well made, I expect it to do around Cinderella numbers. Could make a profit if it's not too expensive.

Inside Out 2 probably will be another mid movie. First was liked and made a good amount of money but no one really cares about it as a brand. I expect it to do worse than the first, unlike Finding Dory which did a lot better than Finding Nemo.

Deadpool 3 is going to be a bomb if it releases next year. They're filming it during the writers strike which is supposedly causing issues.

Lion King prequel might make a billion dollars cause the first made way more than a billion dollars. I could also see it flopping and failing to excite audiences again. No middle ground.

Captain America will be a huge flop unless it's an incredible movie. Who wants to go see a captain america movie without captain america? I didn't watch the Disney+ series but that marketed him as Falcon so I think most people will be just as confused as I am.

TLDR: Avatar 3 in 2025 might be their next billion dollar movie  :P

Horizon

The last good original Disney film was Moana.  The MCU will need the likes of Avengers back and X-men introduced to reinvigorate the brand

MCU needs to die.

I'd like MCU to continue, but it needs a shakeup and to focus less on quantity which they seem to be trying, but things are still meh.  Hopefully secret invasion is decent enough

kitler53

MCU needs to die so they can focus on quality.   less battleship to enable an unnecessary cross over.  more quality scripts where the movie has a point and i don't have to have watched hundreds of hours of other movies in order to understand what's going on.

MCU is the worst thing to ever.   iron man is not uncle ben and i will never forgive disney for making that substitution.

> That brings its domestic tally to $65 million and global total to $121 million. Ticket sales in its sophomore outing were stronger than anticipated, dropping only 37% from the prior weekend. Unfortunately for "Elemental," it landed (by far) the worst start in modern history for Pixar. So it'll need to remain the de facto choice for family audiences to justify its $200 million price tag and restore a little confidence in the Pixar brand.

Not terrible!
