Light Year: $1,927,950
Cars 3: $2,899,125

Almost did both combined!  It's holding on!

Yeah it has a shot at $150 million which is great.

Disney Has Box Office Failures With Indiana Jones, Elemental, Ant-Man - Variety

QuoteBarring a miracle –- or a sudden surge of interest in all things "Haunted Mansion" — "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" looks like it'll be the studio's biggest earner of the year with $835 million. It's the first time since 2014 (except for the pandemic-stricken years of 2020 and 2021) that Disney won't have a movie that reaches $1 billion.
QuotePixar has suffered the most from that mindset, analysts believe. The animation empire has been struggling since the onset of COVID, when several of its titles were sent directly to Disney+ and trained family audiences to watch its movies at home. It's re-entering the theatrical ring with heightened competition in the animation space from Illumination ("The Super Mario Bros. Movie," "Minions: The Rise of Gru"), DreamWorks ("Puss in Boots: The Last Wish") and Sony Pictures Animation ("Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse").

And those companies spend a fraction of Pixar's budget to bring its animated adventures to life. Universal's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which is expected to be the year's highest-grossing film with more than $1.3 billion in revenues, cost $100 million to bring to life. That's roughly half of what Pixar shelled out for "Elemental," which has yet to crack $200 million globally.

No one seems to actually know Indiana Jones 5's budget. Before launch it was $290 million but it might be $350-$400 million before marketing. Essentially it cost just as much as Avatar 2.

It will probably make around $400 million world wide, which could be a loss of ~$300 million on Disney's side. Ouch.

It's crazy how massively horrible Disney is doing at the box office yet Ant Man is their only movie that was disliked by almost everyone. Elemental is having good legs, The Little Mermaid has fans, and even Indiana Jones 5 has some fans. Disney needs to of course make better movies but I think they also need to do a better job of appealing to all audiences/making four quadrant movies. Nearly everyone in America was interested in The Force Awakens yet Indiana Jones 5 mostly appealed to old people. Harrison Ford was old in both movies yet Star Wars handled it so much better.

Oh nice, Elemental is doing quite a bit better than Light year.

But like why did indiana jones need a 290 million budget? Freaking insane

Disney had a pretty incredible run from 2005 to 2020. Iger of course is not solely responsible for that, but that's a good track record.

His eventual replacement might be better but right now Disney needs someone that's safe. Another Chapek could put the company in serious danger.

Still a big failure, but not as bad as Lightyear.

Encanto was really affected by covid/Disney+. Only in theaters for 30 days.

Elemental is essentially only competing against Lightyear and Strangeworld as a post pandemic movie.

Well it is Pixar.
You should see how many times my kids have seen Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Cars, WallE.

They've watched Monsters Inc 47 times.

Pixar lost their magic IMO. Once they started selling out and doing sequels they slowly started losing their touch.
