so discord requires you to use your phone first.  so that's the same as on xbox?   since i don't use discord i've gotten a bit lost on this battle of who is more integrated..

Might be wrong, but from what I saw on Era, Xbox has more integration, but this is how Discord integration started on Xbox. So there will likely be another update for more integration.

i don't think so,.. at least not from the bickering i saw online.   or maybe i'm just behind on the argument.   i just remember a lot of people adamant that ps5's integration was going to go above and beyond xbox's which required a phone to start a chat.   

again,.. i don't use discord now so i'm not bothered either way.   i use the ps chat all the time for coop so i guess i'm only invested into this so far as I want chat to function well.  tbh,.. i never quite understood the amount of hate ps chat got for being difficult to use.   i send an invite and then we're talking.   like,.. what else am i supposed to want?
