They are a support studio, behind the scenes people mostly.
They worked on Halo Infinite, God of War, Forza Motorsport and are currently working on GoW: R.

Another support studio is good. If these guys keep helping on AAA Sony games they will gain great experience, and provide a lot of support for the big guys. Specially now that AAA games need a bigger work force

It's interesting. I wonder why sony needs them in house though.

Riot games, and the one above is Santa Monica.

cool i guess.  if it's a support studio i'll keep my expectations low.   i guess this just means ND's multiplayer eventually releases...

Reuters: Sony's gaming division to buy 'God of War' maker Valkyrie Entertainment

QuoteSeattle-based Valkyrie, which also makes other popular titles such as "Twisted Metal" and "inFAMOUS" and has also worked on the "Forza Motorsport" franchise, will continue to be run by its current management team.

QuoteOur team created several realms featured in the game, including a large portion of the hub realm and the ending of the game. We were given a great degree of autonomy in developing the visuals, while also working very closely with the internal Sony team to make sure we were aligned on the vision.

Working with Santa Monica Studio has been a great experience and we can't overstate how well their team has adapted to the concept of co-development. We are proud to continue and expand our collaboration with Santa Monica Studio on the next chapter in the award winning God of War series.

Cheaper in the long run I guess. Also would help condonation with other first party. And I assume they are ensured a level of quality that outsourcing doesn't always guarantee

SSM, GG and reportedly ND now have 2 teams. They tried it in the past and the only one who really pulled it off was GG, they all went back to 1 team studios.

I imagine having support studios like these offer more flexibility to the main AAA studios, they have less staff to manage, but can suddenly get the support and man power if need be.

If you have a core team working on a second project, and the main team needs help, dont pull resources from the second team, but pull resources from the support studio. And once that game is released, you dont have extra staff waiting around till the second team needs them.

Herman Hulst was running GG through the Killzone shadow fall and horizon phase. I can see these acquisitions being a result of that experience for him

What a year.
Don't forget the loss of Japan studio!

I don't doubt that Sony will keep pumping out hits and these changes will help that, but as a player it's not a fun list. An xbox fanboy can say Microsoft bought Obsidian and a ps fanboy would look silly to counter with these.

I know it's disliked but I think Sony should announce a lot of games next year. Put a trailer to most of these teams, even if the game is years away.

Also I worry about every game releasing early next year, gow and horizon included. Work from home does not seem to be working, at least not yet. Far Cry 6, Halo Infinite, Battlefield, Cod, and Forza have all had major issues beyond what you'd expect from the teams.
