Their games are high quality and they don't get as many third parties. People buy their consoles for their games, so they usually sell a lot more. It leads to some games doing super well that don't deserve it (Pokemon Sword/ Shield I'm looking at you) but most of their games deserve what they sell.

Plus Animal Crossing had a really great release date. Zero competition, an old franchise people are nostalgic about, and lots of families at home together. That combo worked on me.
