Minecraft shows how boring raytracing will be

It looks great. The side by side examples show a night and day difference in quality.

Yet if this video was called "Minecraft ported to Unreal Engine," I think most viewers wouldn't question it. Raytracing does nothing that other techniques couldn't fake.


Raytracing is pretty similar to physically based shaders in that regard. It's nicer on devs and makes better graphics more achievable, but it's just a gradual evolution for outside observers.
