Might show off S42 or 3.0 stuff.

Yup I forgot this even though I made the thread specifically to stop me from forgetting lol.

EDT: seems I was lucky!

The stream is a horrible cringe fest full of technical problems and lacking in content.

Legend

Reaction is overwhelmingly negative on the star citizen subreddit. I turned the stream off.

Tons of technical glitches. Audio was off sync, wrong mics would be on, videos overlapping, etc.

Also didn't really have anything to show except ship sales. S42 demo was announced not to be there an hour or so before it started and their excuse is opposite of what they've said in the past.

It was poorly executed and felt pointless outside of making them money.

People have NMS stick but this is the real gaming scam of our generation.  I'm just delighted I'm not one of those who have sunk big money into it.

How exactly has this been a scam?

They were showing off stuff very promising, was it all smokes and mirrors?  Was this presentation the real state of the game?  Is this going to turn into another No Man's Sky?  Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z!

Meh. The only thing CIG is guilty of is rough presentations. They've been very spotty on those since Day 1. People really don't understand the timeline of this game's development. Technically, development began almost 4 years ago but only technically. They spent about a year and a half to two years doing a ton of studio building, resource gathering, and talent scouting. When they first started, they had one shaming location with a handful of people. Some of them weren't even actual developers. They built themselves up to four good studios and over 300 people. Will probably be around 400 by this time next year. They're building two games at once. An MMO and a single-player game that they actually have several sequels planned for.

It took Bioware, a well known and established developer, about 6 and a half years to shove The Old Republic out of the door and it wasn't even finished. I don't even mean that in the sense it's an MMO which is only finished when the servers close for good. I mean the UI was missing so many elements that were industry standard, some of the game systems were incredibly barebones to the point of feeling tacked on, and the game was terribly optimized from the start. This was an established studio with many people working for it, and a lot of resources behind it, that took a licensed IP, made an MMO, and still couldn't make it feel "finished" after more than 6 years of development. When you consider that and then think how a company that started with virtually nothing and wasn't even "fully functional" until over 2 years ago at best is making something this ambitious, you really need to step back and give them some time.

This game hasn't been in development for 10 years with no progress shown, like some people make it out to be. Hell, they were doubted by even some of their hardcore backers when they said seamless transitions to planets that would be fully explorable would happen. Well, two demonstrations earlier this year pretty much silenced everyone. Even more so when they announced that such a system would enter the live alpha early next year. They haven't lied about anything nor have they deceived people. The only people who believe that are the ones who haven't actually paid any attention and have allowed shoddy journalists to tell them what they should believe.

Find out next time in 2020. When they'll give another small update.

They give multiple updates a week. They've also already been updating people to the new 2.6 patch that the stream showed off.

Their focus of selling ships is worth the complaints and development has been slow imo but the game is a real game. Next time they have a free weekend you should really try it out.

Welcome to Star Citizen - Roberts Space Industries

Star Citizen free fly weekend! Doesn't include the 2.6 patch but should be more than enough to get you accustomed to the game's current state.
