According to a filing discovered by Ars Technica, Sony has finally agreed to settle the lawsuit, promising to pay $55 to Playstation 3 owners who can make a valid claim that they used the other OS functionality, and $9 to Playstation 3 owners who can attest "that they lost value and/or desired functionality or were otherwise injured as a consequence of the firmware update

in other news, sony forced to explain a $2,000 write off on their next financial statement.

Yeah you can't really prove you wanted linux on your PS3, and it's going to be even harder to prove you had linux in your machine.

sounds like you need to swear under oath...

..no one will do it.  not for $9 when the penalty for lying under oath is prison.

Yeah.  Like, I did actually use Yellow Dog and Ubuntu on my PS3, but I never actually bought my PS3 for that.  I'm sure the government can make a case though.  I think the navy was using PS3s for a super computer.
