I mean it's good that they did this instead of launching as cross gen, but how badly must things be selling for them to do this a year after launch?

PS3 got practically zero ports 4 years into the PS4's life cycle but obviously PS4 was much more successful than PS3.

I mean I don't think it sold particularly bad. Especially considering a 3rd is in the works.  So, it did well enough to warrant another.

I was meaning next gen in general. Last gen software sales must be pretty big still.

If anything I think it's one of the major reasons why PS5 is successful. It gave PS5 a full library of games to play. Imagine if PS5 relied only on new releases since the start of the gen.
