QuoteDetails: The meeting between Zaslav and Bakish, which sources say lasted several hours, took place at Paramount's headquarters in Times Square.

QuoteThe duo discussed ways their companies could compliment one another. For example, each company's main streaming service — Paramount+ and Max — could merge to better rival Netflix and Disney+.
It's unclear whether WBD would buy Paramount Global or its parent company, National Amusements Inc. (NAI), but a source familiar with the situation says that both options are on the table.
WBD is said to have hired bankers to explore the deal.

I'm honestly curious, but does Paramount wanna go bankrupt too?  No one is going to dent that 50 billion dollar hole...

Smaller than Byron's offer I guess.

It's a small thing, but it'd be funny if Sony ended up controlling the physical media for 3 out of the 5 big film studios.

- Sony, Disney/Fox, Paramount
- Warner Bros
- NBCUniversal/Comcast

Would be weird for Sony to own paramount, but it at least wouldn't be the worst merger.

Hopefully it goes better than their last attempt at a streaming service, Powers on PS+.

huh, weird that paramount will negotiate with sony via the NYT.   not sure why the NYT would be an intermediary....

i'm pretty indifferent with respect to TV/movies.   sony doesn't have a streaming service and if paramount+ died and it's content distributed over the other services like sony does today I would say that is a good thing for consumers.    also paramount's biggest IP (star trek) is in a bad place right now so I'd have some hope sony could turn that around.

Instead I mostly care about what this would mean for video games.   ...specifically nickelodeon's content.   i would be super happy is this lead to an amazing TMNT, Avatar, or invader Zim game.   they also have a lot of little kid appropriate stuff (blues clues, blaze, paw patrol, umizoomi, bubble guppies) that as a collection of IPs are probably bigger than nintendo.   ...not that sony would be smart enough to leverage that but making those games and promoting them for playstation would secure a lot of fresh new customers for life.

but a great star trek video game would be pretty awesome as well.

having a hard time figuring out what other IP they own.   i see a lot of franchises I know they don't own like iron man and india jones.   but if transformers, adam's family, gi Legend, friday the 13th, top gun, mission impossible are really part of paramount that's not a bad library of IP to work with.

yes.

the phrasing on that tweet just seemed weird/uncommon to me.   who sources their source in a tweet when the tweet has the source in the tweet?
