Prediction: KSP2 will flop

These system requirements are insane. They're worse than AAA games yet KSP has built its success as a fun game that everyone can play. The alpha is probably an unoptimized mess but I doubt performance improves quick enough to matter.

Also many fans are in denial that these requirements are high for KSP2: Reddit - Dive into anything
Makes me worried that most of the hype for the game is misinformed and things will come crashing down once the barebones alpha launches.

Hopefully I'm wrong. I bought the first KSP over ten years ago and I was super hyped for KSP2, but that slowly faded away over the past few months.

First game sold at least a few million and has built a massive community. For example its subreddit has 1.5 million members.

I'll define flop as the second game failing to convert KSP1 players. It'd be like if Destiny 2 came out yet 3/4 of the community just stuck with Destiny 1.

In a weird kind of way I wasn't feeling sure that KSP2 would be successful, even if there were no issues with it.

(Although I don't have a lot of experience with KSP as it is, so maybe my impressions are off-base.)

I feel the same kind of way about Minecraft. If Mojang came out with a Minecraft 2, would Minecraft players move over to it? It just feels like one of those games where the sequel would have to be something very special in order to move people over.

I think KSP2 has a lot of innate potential. Unlike Minecraft, it's trying to recreate a real thing and most fans can agree on what KSP2 should be.

Simply rebuilding the physics system gets 90% there. The first game has massive limitations where physics are bouncy/chaotic under certain situations. Also the first game uses very simplified orbits so things like the JWST are impossible.

You know, looking at the specs, they're kind of weird.

The AMD CPU is really bad on the Minimum side, like you could probably go back several more years on the intel side and still have better performance. (Unless there are some interesting AMD optimizations.)

It's like an average CPU a decade ago, paired with a high end GPU from 4-5 years ago. A very GPU lopsided game apparently.

That's fair.

I just kind of feel even with improvements, a lot of games with more of a sandbox lean, struggle to move people over even with improvements.

But that's definitely fair.

I don't know what the heck is up with this game's performance. The press event had people playing with this rig:

Yet people are getting performance like this:

It has to be something fundamentally broken. Maybe it's gpu lopsided, but how the heck is a 4080 getting 23 fps here?

Yeah I can't think too many sandbox games that successfully transferred everyone over to the sequel. Usually they just do updates/dlc (which was awesome, since early buyers got free dlc for life)

Today is launch day. Sometimes the space center launches with you.

Kerbal Space Program 2 on Steam

51% rating on steam and 6,629 reviews. The reception is pretty horrible but that's a great launch sales wise. If they can put out bug and performance fixes fast enough to move on to new feature development, there's still a chance the sequel could be great. I hope that happens even though I don't expect it.

Don't build space stations. Averaging less than 1 frame per second with RTX 3060, Intel i9 12900k, and 32GB DDR4.

You have no idea how badly I want a deep dive to explain this madness.
