actually,.. there is a somewhat convincing argument that children should be allowed a vote...

today an old person is allowed to vote even if they don't have the mental capacity to do anything else.   the law allows that person's child to "facilitate" their vote.

the same position could be taken for children,.. the parents could "facilitate" their vote.   the concept is that right now the way voting is done skews power to elderly people that have no interest in supporting critical services like schools.   if parents of school aged children could cast a vote to the benefit of their children then government would be more attentive to the needs of children.

not even sure what my personal take is on that.  just saying there is a pretty viable argument that children should have a vote.

republicans would hate this of course.   their brand is to eliminate all services to cut taxes which plays well with retired old people that no longer need those services.

Yeah I saw a youtube vid about it which made me interested.

But you need to convince the AI about direct voting, no proxy voting. The 2 year old gets to walk into the voting booth on their own and do whatever they do.

yeah, obviously it wouldn't work to give a ballot to a 2 year old.   or at the very least the results would be hilarious.

"How the heck did this guy win!?!?!?"

"It appears his name was lowest on the screen, so kids could reach it."

"Alexa, play 867-5309"

"Okay.   Now playing eight million six hundred and seventy five thousand three hundred and nine jenny by Tommy Tutone"

Have you switched to Alexa plus? It is pretty stupid lol. But better than the old one at least.

amazon forced upgraded me for a while.   i gave it a try for a couple weeks and then downgraded.

she got very uppity in her tone.   stopped always doing what i told her to do and started sometimes doing things to the effect of "that's a great suggestion but i think you'll like this song instead".    i don't need my alexa to be my friend.  the only thing i want is for her to play the songs/artists i ask for so i though making her full on AI was a downgrade.

Makes sense for you.

In my case I mostly use Alexa for smarthome stuff. "Turn on the back patio lights" and old Alexa would say "the device back patio camera does not have lights." She'd need the exact keyword or else it wouldn't work. The lights were set up as "backyard patio lights."

But now with Alexa + all those issues are gone since it can understand intent kind of.

gotcha.

i'm not into the home integration stuff.  i don't need help turning on a light and i'm very not comfortable with amazon filling my house with a bunch of listening devices and especially cameras.   i actually unplug alexa most of the time.

i'm also not into the "personal assistantant" stuff.  like i can kind of get the alure in general but amazon is the last company i would want to go with for that kind of thing.  all of amazon's software is pretty much craptastic.  their music player sucks.  their video service sucks.  i've heard google's nest isn't  great but at least they have competent calendar and email services that would make the personal assistant thing useful outside of my kitchen.

I have my own raspberry Pi set up for everything. Alexa just handles voice commands.

I got into it because it is really nice to just pop on a wifi smartoutlet instead of having to wire a physical light switch into the circuit. And these are string lights over the patio so they might not stick around for that many years.
