There have been plenty of movies and TV shows based on gaming IPs stretching back decades, but there seems to be a huge resurgence.

We have Sony, MS, Nintendo, all either making or licensing out their IPs for movies or TV shows.

Sony has been promising 10+ productions based on their IPs, despite not doing that much beforehand. The Uncharted movie was in the works for a long time, but they really seem to be pushing a lot harder on movies now.

Nintendo is pretty notable, in that they tried it years ago, and are now invested again. They have a new Mario movie, despite the fact that the last one was almost 30 years ago. And Nintendo just bought a studio that seems to be dedicated to doing more of this kind of work.

We have:
- Ghost of Tsushima movie
- God of War tv show
- Horizon tv show
- The Last of Us tv show
- Jak and Daxter movie
- Gran Turismo movie
- Twisted Metal tv show
- Mario movie
- Sonic movie (not new)
- Halo TV series
- Fallout TV series
- Minecraft the movie
- The Division movie
- Borderlands Movie
- Apparently there's a Portal Movie in the works.

- Bungie has talked about doing productions
- Kojima has talked about doing productions

adaptations have always been a big source of content for movies.  i have not particular feeling about games being adapted to movies other than few of them seem to work and the ones that do seems to be the heavily cinematic games to which the movie is just basically a retelling of the game's cut scenes which is kind of borning.

i feel like maybe a different approach would work.  like for elden ring RR martin wrote the worlds backdrop.   perhaps that would make for a good movie in that it is relavant to the game without being a retelling of the game.    ...or i guess you could just say it's actually an adaptation of a book and not of a game.

Lots are good like Uncharted, Sonic, the new Tomb Raider, Pokemon, Witcher TV show, and Mortal Kombat. I'm happy to get more like those where they are faithful to the source while still being original.

The Halo TV show however supposedly sucks.
